Ever wondered how an armadillo uses a puzzle feeder?🧐
Dahlia’s most useful tools are her sense of smell and powerful claws. Combine the two, and she is unstoppable against this feeder!

Otters deserve playground slides too🛝

Have you ever seen an armadillo use a puzzle feeder?
Puzzle feeders are one of the easiest ways to keep a brain healthy and active! Not only does this slow down the speed in which Dahlia eats, it allows her to forage for her worm breakfast just like she would in the wild🙂

May the Fourth? You mean #SalamaderSaturday?🦎
We are using any excuse to fill your feed with our favorite dirt-digging machine, Sally. Tiger salamanders have incredibly powerful legs for their body size that aid them in digging through tough terrain😁

Look who has finally come toddling outside with mom🥹
This year’s kit, a female named Enda, has finally began exploring the outdoors under close supervision from Ahmari. Do note, mom is still keeping a very cautious and watchful eye on Enda, so viewing of this little one remains minimal during visitor hours.

Have you ever seen a snake shed their skin?🧐
Check out this impressive video from Caregiver Abbey of Taco, the California king snake, shedding. We do consider Taco to be a fully grown snake; however, the reality is that he will never stop growing! Snakes grow throughout their entire life and must shed their skin in order to do so🐍
Taking some much-deserved self care time❄️
Even though Ivy, the North American mink, lives inside our main building, Caregivers make sure to bring her pieces of the outdoors. That can be anything from a bucket of snow, a pile of leaves, or an entire tree!
📸Ivy rolls around in a blue plastic bucket full of snow.
Armadillo Exercise
If you've ever seen Dahlia here at the Zoo, you probably know she can have a lot of energy😊
Enter her new exercise wheel! Animal Care Staff helped Dahlia figure out her new wheel this weekend. She took it slow at first, making sure to smell all of the new smells, but she caught on very quickly! We are looking forward to seeing how confident she becomes on her new energy outlet😀
📸Dahlia, the southern three-banded armadillo, walks on a black-colored exercise wheel.
Behold the speed and stamina of a snowy Pabu 😆❄️
Native to regions of the Himalayan Mountains, red pandas are uniquely adapted to handle the harsh outdoor elements!

Volunteers, we love you! In 2023, you racked up 8,352 hours of service at ZooMontana! Wow! That computes to over $265,000 in saved labor costs for us. Just incredible. Whether you are here with a group, helping in our gardens or arboretum, aiding with animal care, helping in the gift shop, cleaning buildings, or doing one of the many other tasks we have, THANK YOU! You truly are the lifeblood of our organization, and your efforts makes a real difference. Be proud of what you provide to both the Zoo and Community! A special thank you to one of the JustServe volunteers for this awesome video.
