We need to be bringing back native plants to our ecosystems AND it is financially beneficial from a landscaping point of view.
I have had clients tell me that they spent thousands on landscaping, only for it to all die the first time they encountered drought or freeze. That's a hell of a business plan, but not one I follow.

Hey you! I bet you have some overgrown okra hanging out on the plant that you know won't taste any good! Or some bitter cucumbers that have finally taken a dive in this summer heat?
Those things are GREAT for your compost pile, but another good move is finding a local animal sanctuary to see if their animals would enjoy a tasty treat. The piggies, goats, sheep, and some native animals to the land, racoons and deer sure do appreciate the offering ❤️
I am bringing a few giant bags to on Monday if anyone has some food they would like to add! Let me know and we will figure out a meeting place.

My husband likes to say I'm a certified pot dealer 😂
One of the pillars of Grounded Soul is to do as much as possible for the environment around us, and the Lord knows that there is SO MUCH plastic in landscaping.
Today I cleared out about a quarter of our garage of all the pots that I used in the last few months to hand them off to a local grower Black Acres Farm in Seguin so that they can be reused and kept out of landfills as long as possible.
Is it a perfect solution? Not at all! But it's a step in the right direction! ❤️

As we walk into the hottest of hot summers, I have been blessed with some newly christened gardeners (seriously, blessed, I get the BEST clients) and many that have struggled in past seasons. I think that this haul right here says a lot about my gardening style -
I rarely fret about a plant. If it dies, it dies 🤷🏼♀️
I very often forget to water my garden... Like all the time ( won't forget to water yours though 😅)
If any bug related to a Squash Vine Borer, or rhyming with SVB enjoys something, it's not in my garden 🙅🏼♀️ I am also sick of those bugs.
I grow what we eat, and what I can preserve through canning or dehydrating.
I don't necessarily get adventurous but I will 💯 get chaotic. I toss seeds, plant sickly plants, and follow few rules in my own garden.
I actually forgot that I had planted tomato plants until last week and haphazardly strung them up from being tangled on the ground onto poles and hoped for the best.
This makes me sound like a terrible gardener, but I'm sharing this because I want everyone to take a deep breath and let go of their perceived plant failures already. Good gardeners ride on the backs of thousands of dead plants and failed seasons 👻🥕.
Gardening ends up being about the outcome in so many people's minds, but to me it is about the process. From my budding excitement in January through my evening harvest today, what did I enjoy most? The butterflies circling my purple coneflower, the moment of quiet as I stepped through the garden gate, the curiosity of peaking behind giant cucumber leaves to see what's hiding. Are there dead/dying/poor performing plants in my garden? Absolutely. But why focus on that? When you have three new baby blackberries?

You'll catch both Park and I this summer out in the field (or under the plum tree doing quality control testing... repeatedly...).
This, in addition to the brutal heat heading out way means that our hours have moved earlier into the morning for the duration of the summer 😊
I joined forces on this garden after these onions were planted, and already bulbing... Once onions are bulbing you shouldn't fertilize as it creates a flavor change so I watered and watched to see when they were ready. What a delightful harvest this was!
Hard to see amongst the rose-love I got last week - but watch out for those fuzzy caterpillars folks. I never saw what kind got me but it started with welts before my whole hang swole up! Burned for over 24 hours before deciding that I Iearned my gloveless lesson. Unfortunately this is the third time I've been hit (twice by asps 🤢)
And yes mom, I put the 6000 pairs of gloves I own back in the truck 😂

🥰🌻 What a beautiful garden we got to work in this week! We added plenty of natives and adapted plants - Salvia, Turks cap, Coneflower, Silver pony foot, Columbine, Texas lantana, Gomphrena, Plumbago, Greg's Blue Mist and Yaupon Holly. - then we gave the roses some extra love so that they can continue on their beautiful blooms all summer long!
My vision for the adorable cottage was that people could sit on the patio and be immersed in nature through the birds and butterflies that will surely flock to this space - and I'm sure we hit the nail on the head!

Project wrap up! I feel like I get to know people so intimately when we are creating, or redoing their garden spaces. This garden was no different! Tears were shed, laughter echoed, and stories were shared. This client wanted to create a space of healing and growth in her beautiful backyard. She already had a green thumb, only disguised by confidence that needed a little boost, and a passion for spending time working with plants (including a grape vine carried over from Lebanon by her grandfather that she had nurtured through several moves 😳) Embracing the colors provided by a beautiful stone house, we built the raised bed to match, added a custom potting station, and moved the tall raised beds to another area for veggies that appreciate a little different sun approach. The top level of the stone bed holds native pollinator plants like Greggs Blue Mist, Salvia, Silver Ponyfoot, Plumbago and Purple Coneflower with fillers like Potato Vine to soften the edges. The lower will be a feast of Fall leafy greens and herbs as we move into our cooler season. This project was completed during a particularly grueling heat wave here in Central Texas so our options were slim for planting. I'm excited to continue filling in a beautiful pollinator paradise as this grows! *note* please excuse the dramatic squash who was upset at being staked this afternoon 😂 #centraltexasgardener #landscapedesign #vegetablegarden #pollinatorgarden #sanantoniogardening

I always try to plant extra Dill, and let it bloom to the skies! Not only do pollinators LOVE the blooms, they make great impromptu cut flowers, and they are LOVED by the Eastern Black Swallowtail Caterpillars. Today was the first time this season I've spotted them on my plants.
Who else is giddy for their flower seed orders 🙋🏼♀️This is one of three that came in for me to test with in my own garden, and for established customers whose gardens are in Spring planning mode!
I'm always excited to see how a seasonal planting ends up. For seasonal plantings, I design the layout and often assist in planting for the season (this one happened in December) My jaw absolutely dropped when I turned the corner to this feast (for the eyes, soul, and body). A LOT of care went into this garden since I saw it last and I'm so excited for this fantastic outcome.

The perfect person would be someone who: 🪱 Enjoys getting their hands dirty. 🌻 Has a good understanding of plants - vegetables, cut flowers, and natives (or is willing to learn!) 🏋🏼♀️ Can lift 50lbs, handle a shovel, and is comfortable working outdoors! 🤓 MOST IMPORTANTLY someone who is willing to learn, follow instructions closely, and communicate openly. A day in this job might start with caring for plants at a historic hotel, followed by planting vegetables and caring for cut flowers in some of the most beautiful gardens you have ever seen, for some of the best clients there are. It may include helping on an installation of some of our stunning culinary or native gardens, or assisting in purchasing plants. Hands on training will be provided. Locations include Boerne, Comfort, Bulverde, and Center Point. Work typically occurs on week days, ending at 3PM. Being a working mom myself, I understand the importance of flexibility! This job will ebb and flow with the seasons as sometimes are busier than others and is perfect for someone who wants to make some extra money while playing with plants 🌱 Pay starts at $20 and hour with room for advancement for the right fit!
