Have you ever wondered why many horses are resistant to having the front of their faces petted? Or why they spook at objects that have been there but they act like they didn't see them? It is because of the unique field of vision equines possess.

Try this science experiment. Hold one finger up with your arm extended in front of you. Stare at it. Now shut one eye then open it and quickly shut the other eye.

Did the finger appear to move over an inch or 2?

This is what happens when a horse makes a bit of a turn and an object switches from one eye's vision to the other. It is why the blue garbage can at the edge of the arena you were passing with your horse just fine, suddenly becomes scary when clearly the horse has already seen it.

ATTENTION VETERANS & FIRST RESPONDERS! We still have a couple of spots available for tomorrow's (Saturday, April 15) Horses & Heroes. This is a free event and includes a flag retirement ceremony at 3:30 followed by a trail ride at 4:00 for veterans and first responders--then food , games and bonfire for veterans, first responders and their families and friends!

Our Easter Festival is still on! Beginning at 11:00 AM this morning. The slide is not here because of the wind however we will have pony rides, train rides, egg hunts, lunch, games etc. -- all included in the $5 per car entry fee! The Easter Bunny will also be here and we have tee-shirts, Easter gifts and other items for purchase so COME ON OUT 👍

The Mother’s Day Basket is up and on display. Please see a staff member to purchase tickets. Baskets includes a trail ride for two, $150 Southport Massage gift card, $100 gift card to Island Way on Oak Island, Bottle of wine with two wine tumblers and insulated wine bottle, and Bath and Bodywork’s Candles. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Drawing will be May 15. You don’t have to be present to win.
