Couldn’t have said it better 🥹 a lot of people don’t realize how special each and every F1 baby is and what it takes to raise them 🥹

The value of our f1 savannah kitten.

In order to produce F1 we jump through several hoops. It is really a hit or miss combination.

We all are aware of the magical life formula which is mommy x daddy = babies but in our F1 world its really something else….

It’s Not because your Serval breeds your females that you will necessarily end up with kittens.

Mommy has to be able to carry to term the little F1. ( Serval pregnancy last 75-80 days while cats is around 60-65 days)
First clash here between the species ( cats and feline) .

When we breed our serval to a female cat we all think ; yay almost done , 63 days pregnant, we will have kittens!!

NOPE THIS IS THE FIRST MISTAKE WE ALL DO!
If the serval genes are stronger than the cat genes you end up with premmies.
The last organ to fully form in a foetus development is the lungs resulting in non viable kittens despite our best efforts, will and incubators.

To be honest, Producing F1 kittens is a major challenge.

June 26th , I am sick to my stomach from the lack of sleep but I still carry on.
Our beautiful litter born June 23rd is vigourously thriving and all hopes are permitted but still, life can be tricky and nothing is a certainty at this point.

My life is on hold now, this is the not so glorious part of our job as breeders, the behind the curtain part, the part that no one tell you about.

My schedule has been cleared for the next 2 weeks because I have 3 little miracles depending on me!

Ooh this is so cool, mommy gave birth on June 23rd, last baby out at 2358, 3 beautiful little jems! Thats incredible ! Everything is meant to be!! Now you can rest….

Hold on Gun powder! This is not where and when it all started….. we were on baby watch since June 18th since mommy had her milk let down that day

Thank God hubby gifted us with google cams in our maternity ward and in our whelping boxes so at least I don’t have to physically check in on her every hour of the night to make sure she is not in labor.
I can watch her from the comfort of my bed on the ipad every hours and not having to walk in there makes it easier to fall back asleep quickly.
So my last full night of sleep was last monday! Night of june 17th to the 18th

Ooh wow she gave birth what a relief now you can rest and have a wonderful night of sleep!!

Everything is on hold because I am not decent anymore! I wear my best look ever, under eye dark circles, messy hair bun, crumble of food on me… greasy spot of whatever biological substance i’ve been exposed too…… I should have done the audition for the shinning and I am pretty sure Jack Nicholson would have been envious of my look !
The lack of sleep, my legendary vocabulary and the absence of patience make me stay at home to avoid people. I swear I don’t snap I bark at this point!
The only last bit of patience left in me is for my little new mommy and her new borns warriors.
Even if they are strong and thriving they need all my attention and special care.

We make sure they are nursing at least 20 minutes every 2 hours. So precious! And yes we do it because succeeding in creating these little miracles is a wonder of mother nature!

I have been blessed to succeed after everything i’ve been through , the money investment, the time
Consuming days and nights and all the efforts.
Unfortunately this is not a reality for all breeders out there who owns serval, gene incompatibility, miscarriage, stillborn, death of premmies, babies fading away after few days, death of your female while breeding, never happened to me but I heard a lot of horror stories and this is a reality all of us can face at any time even with the best care and precautions of the world!

So all being said, next time you’ll ear the 5 figures price of these wonders, instead of freaking out on us, start thinking about all we put ourselves through to produce your precious F1’s.

Think of all the money we spent up front, the permits, the installations, enclosures vet care, quality diet, a lot of savannah females etc etc…

We are going through emotionnal roller coaster as sky high joy and sorrow as in deep end the ocean so please educate yourself out of respect for the breeders who gives it all for the breed.

If you don’t know what’s on the line here you are welcome to ask questions but judging us, insulting us and saying things like : wow you’ve learn how to r**e a wallet because you are ignorant can be hurtful for us.

Breeding is a passion, it takes a very strong will, a heart of gold and a solid spine to stay in the game.
Breeding will either make you or break you, it never have been and will never be more accurate than this with an f1 program.
There is no other way to present it.

I’ve been breeding for more than a decade and producing f1 is the most difficult thing to do in a cat breeding program.

I am literally exhausted, out of my breath, everything is blurry and heightened , its very overwhelming.

The lack of sleep takes its toll on me…. Focus gone…. Short term memory gone…. Cortisol spiking check! Adrenaline keeps me going
Its almost magical!

I am a living zombie! Sleep cycle gone forever. Once you’ve been through more than 3 weeks on sleep deprivation , you’ve unlock a new level in your brain that should have stayed locked. None the less its unlocked but it will bring a lot of other health issues with it…. Yep part of the joy of being a breeder!

F1 Tobi one of the most experienced outdoor Savannah cats. In his resume 😅 you can find: Kayaking/paddle boarding 🚣‍♀️, constantly walking on the leash🤸‍♂️, bicycling 🚴‍♂️ in the backpack and even traveling to Canada 🚞. He lives in the capital of our state Olympia, WA with his amazing parents🏡 and he is one happy kitty 😸
