Don’t get me wrong, there are times when dog training is boring or not fun. Teaching a dog a long down, is not fun 😂
But you can make other parts of dog training fun for you and your dog! Teaching something like place can be fun! Here I am working with Fury on place and positional commands! He’s not a dog I will probably regularly use the place command with but I do want him to know it.
Challenge your dog! Teach them new commands. Make it fun! If you aren’t having fun training your dog, your a lot less likely to do it.
Place command!
Teaching a place command can be such a beneficial tool. It’s great for dogs who cannot settle on their own outside the crate and in the home, impulse control, independence, etc. and it can be pretty easy to teach! But can take time. But once they have got it down, it is such a nice tool you have readily available.
Here is my dog Fury working on place. Our “place” is a little different though. With the sport we are doing, we need a platform for him to target and be sent to as it will help us later on with certain aspects of teaching behaviors for this sport. He’s still very much in the beginning stages but once he’s got it, we will start adding duration and then distractions like food, toys, etc.
Interested in getting into a protection dog sport or a protection dog? Although I do no offer protection/bite sport training, I have trainers that I recommend! I personally go to Joel Monroe in Delhi, CA as a member of Wild West Dog Sport which is a schutzhund club ran by Joel. Having a good helper and trainer to set the foundation for your dog and quality bites is incredibly important which Joel and our club helpers are some of the best!
Meet Una! Una is a almost 1 yr old Australian Shepherd, who I see for private sessions along with her brother, Cooper, who we are working on things like basic obedience, house manners, not pulling herself to death on walks and some other things to make living with her and Cooper a little easier. In this video, we are working on Una’s walking skills as she used to darn near drag her owners! With the help of a prong collar, she is learning to walk, not pull!
Australian Shepherds are awesome dogs and make great pets as long as owners, like Una’s, are willing to put in the work. Australian Shepherds are tropically bred and used for herding as it is in their natural instincts. These breeds are known for their high energy which Una has plenty of! She is such a sweet girl and I cannot wait to see the progress me and her owners make with her! Keep an eye out for updates on Miss Una.
If you are considering bringing home a new dog and need help figuring out which breed fits your life style best or have a breed in mind and need help finding a reputable ethical breeder, I’d be more than happy to help. Feel free to comment here, message me on messenger or text me at 925-550-5990. 😊
How well do your pups tolerate grooming? In this rainy, muddy season, grooming is going to be done a lot more. And having a dog that doesn’t like grooming and puts up a fight is really frustrating.
We don’t need our dogs to love being groomed but they at least need to tolerate it. My own personal dog, Fury, who is in this video, used to be terrified of the blow dryer. Would try to bite it and was afraid but within two sessions, he is much easier to handle. He definitely wants to bite at the blow dryer but I have shown him that it won’t hurt him, it’s nothing to be afraid of and I need you to work with me. He’s almost there. But I think a little more work and he won’t mind it at all.
If you need help training your pup, please feel free to message me 😌
This is Toast! Toast is client pup of mine I’ve been working with since he was about 5 months old! Toast is a pit mix pup who is owned and loved by his awesome family who came to me looking for just basic puppy raising and obedience. A couple weekends last month, I had Toasty come stay the weekend to really work on training like not pulling, place command, manners, etc. I still do work with Toast and his family so be on the look out for further updates on this handsome boy! ❤️
*in this video, Toast is on a “place” and we are working on his staying until given the release command to get up*
Everyone meet Fury! Fury is a Czech Working Line German Shepherd that is my own personal dog. We are currently working towards IGP/Schutzhund titles. We are hoping to go for our BH in 2023!
