21-Sep-21. There is still plenty of mint in the garden! We use it fresh in the summer for Minted Iced Tea, but we also harvest plenty before the first frost and dry it for using in our winter herbal tea blends.

It's not to late to harvest your herbs for winter use.

17-Aug-21. Tropical Storm Fred came through town, bringing record amounts of rain to the Western NC mountains. Several communities are in clean-up mode. Consider a donation to the Red Cross if you'd like to help (https://www.redcross.org/).

11-Jul-2021. This week we harvested onions that we planted in early spring, and garlic that we planted last fall. We have since hung them in the shed to cure so that they can be used over the next several months. These are so easy to grow, and are richly rewarding!

6-Jul-2021. My face planter is now in the front yard of The Old Stone Cottage, and I like to change up what "hair" she has every now and then. Last year I planted Blazing Star (Liatris) that came back beautifully this summer.

4-Jun-2021. We tweaked our strategy for the meadow on our lower lot. We took the simple route this year and stopped mowing, rather than continue to work on smothering with cardboard and starting with new material. So we were interested to see what would grow, and to no surprise, the white and red clover and the grasses are happily doing their thing! And the birds, rabbits, and deer love it. Here's one happy bunny from this afternoon.

10-Mar-2021. We decided to sell our second rental property "Annie Marie's Place" instead of keeping it as a rental. It went on the market yesterday via Looking Glass Realty. She's a beauty and we are thrilled with the remodel work! One of the changes we made was to take it from a 2 bedroom 1.5 bathroom to have 2 full bathrooms. You can see the listing here:

4-Mar-2021. Yellow daffodils are blooming in the front flower bed at The Old Stone Cottage! Spring is getting ready to spring.

24-Feb-2021. We are making progress on the three meadows we are putting in on our lower lot. We are still in the "pin cardboard down" phase, which will kill the grass. Then we are putting chopped leaf mulch down next. Here are a few more photos on a recent frosty morning of the three beds, which are hard to get in a single photo. There are walkways between the beds. 😀
