Welcome to the team, Dr. Patel! ✨

Dr. Nikesh (Nick) Patel is a native of New Jersey. He completed his undergraduate studies at Rutgers University and earned his Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in Animal Sciences. He went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University in 2019. Following graduation, he completed a one-year small animal rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Ohio State University. Dr. Patel migrated to Texas for a year to complete a one-year specialty internship in surgery at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center prior to returning to the Midwest to complete a three-year surgical residency at the Ohio State University.

Dr. Patel’s focus and interests are in cardiothoracic surgery, surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, arthroscopy), advanced orthopedic surgery, complex upper and lower urinary surgery, and wound management and reconstructive surgery. His previous publications illustrate innovative techniques in non-surgical and minimally-invasive treatments for canine renal cysts, as well as a novel approach in performing pe**le amputations in dogs. His most recent research is in tumor identification and margin evaluation of canine soft tissue sarcomas using spectral-domain and polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography.

Dr. Patel finds it a privilege to have received premier clinical surgical training and mentorship from world-class surgeons, and is passionate about passing that knowledge forward. He developed a strong enthusiasm for leading and teaching students, interns, and junior residents as one of two chief residents in his residency program. As an attending, he strives to help residents foster their clinical acumen with focused development on strategies and techniques for engineering surgical success.

Dr. Patel’s hobbies include staying active through running and hiking, swimming, kayaking, weight-training, high-intensity interval training, and kickboxing. He also enjoys traveling and exploring natural landscapes. In his free time, he likes to support local breweries and distilleries, and other small businesses in the community. He is a committed dad to his Siberian Husky (Kora) and two cats (Willow and Cedar).

Howie won't stop believing in having fun, even after a handful of surgeries! 🍩🩷

Howie, a 4-year old Bulldog, visited our surgery team for chronic bilateral ear disease. He had been battling ear infections (otitis externa) for several months with a dermatologist but the medications were no longer working. Before our team could address his ear disease, Howie needed an initial surgery to correct his breed-associated conformational abnormalities since he was a Bulldog.

Two weeks after correcting his airway, Howie was finally ready to have both of his ear canals removed. In the span of 72 hours (to safely recover from his anesthetic events), Howie had both of his ear canals removed - a procedure called Total Ear Canal Ablations. After nearly a week-long stay in the hospital to monitor Howie closely, we are happy to report that he is well on his way to recovery! Keep sprinkling positivity, Howie!

Keep your furry friends safe this 4th of July with these tips!

💥 Fireworks can cause anxiety in pets, and today sees the highest number of pets reported missing. Keep them indoors where they feel safe and protected from the noise.

🌽 Be cautious with barbecue foods like corn on the cob, as they can lead to serious obstructions if ingested. Keep them out of reach while grilling!

🏊‍♂️ Avoid letting pets drink chlorinated water and ensure pool chemicals are securely stored away.

Our Robbinsville location is OPEN today. Should your pet require Emergency care, call us at (609) 259-8300
