This is Miss Lia on the banana shelf. π Miss Lia is a two year old extreme faced Lynx Point Himilayan. Miss Lia is spayed and is the sweetest girl! She is currently growing out #7 modified lion cut (a bit longer lion cut than the traditional super shorty cut). Miss Lia does require daily eye wiping with warm water but accepts that as part of her daily routine with no trouble at all. Like all cats, Lia is susceptible to urinary issues caused by feeding a moisture deficient dry food diet, so she gets canned wet foods twice daily. When I first got Lia I transitioned her to a commercial raw diet (I used Darwins), and she did perfect on it. After getting my second and then third himilayans, and the rescues deciding they wanted raw too, the commercial became cost-prohibitive. I bought a meat grinder and learned to make my own balanced raw meals but then ran out of freezer space. As a cat groomer, I am able to sell cat hair to companies that use it to make allergy shots and the hair must be bagged and kept in the freezer and sent off in 10 pound or more quantities! A new freezer is on my wish list so we can get back to a raw diet once again. A raw diet is awesome because the kitty poops don't stink! Cats on balanced raw usually don't develop urinary issues associated with a moisture deficient diet either, but there are other issues than can cause urinary problems that might not be prevented by eating raw. Stress is a big causative factor, but feeding a high moisture diet year round, may mean that when stress or other problems happen, the urinary issues are less likely to follow.
