You really can’t beat the contrast of the pattern on a black otter rex. This sweet boy was very shy to start but is slowing realizing that I just want to pet his lucious, plush fur and take pictures of his beautiful face.

I don’t like my rabbits hunched over. I love this beautiful boy but this picture demonstrates why I want the Polished Pixie to be more of an arched breed. I want to see air when they are in their natural sitting position. Instead, this buck barely lifts himself off his haunches. He lurks when he moves because of the front leg shape and position. I will be working to change that. My rabbits should sit proudly, properly and should do so naturally—without human intervention to pose.

At seven months old, our mini rex buck weighs in at 2.147 lbs. This is him (black otter) next to our 5 month old netherland dwarf doe. She weighs more than he does so we’re heading the right direction with this program.

This little girl keeps me on my toes. It’s a fun yet challenging breed to work with. I love the energy, the movement and the intelligence. I just wish breeders had done some more fruitful work on the personality built into this breed.
