Back on track with Sid! 😄
Downtown Cape today for training. We practiced here (loose leash walking), sit, stay and come. He did so good and got lots of looks 👀 Don’t think he knows how handsome he is! 🐾

Eh, not sure if it was the heat or all the squirrels 🐿️ that were constantly teasing us today at Jaycee Park but Sid was not focused on training. Frustrated training is never good so we ended up taking a long walk and just “being” at the park (no training, just calm and watching) which is also much needed for a lot of dogs, especially working or high strung breeds.

Not all days can be the same and dogs, just like people, are allowed to have off days.

We are back home now and Sid is decompressing in his crate. Will try again later with less distractions in and around our house/neighborhood.

Build confidence in your dog! It creates balanced and calmer dogs. Let them analyze and overcome things at their own pace whenever possible.

This is Sid at the park, working on his confidence while walking around, on and through obstacles at the playground. This is the photo I took as he stopped dead in his tracks. He was not comfortable walking over and through this part of the playground.

Noticing this, I gently put pressure on the leash but he did not budge. I grabbed some treats to entice him through, but he said nope, not doing this. So, I sat. And I waited. And took this photo. I did not let him back away but I also didn’t force him through, every so often putting pressure on the leash to see if he needed that little nudge or was ready to overcome his fear.

I sat for about 6 minutes and then, on his own he walked over it to the other side, which of course was followed by much, much praise, pets and a hundred “what a good boiiiii!” He did it! On his own. It may not seem much but these experiences matter, they add up, it lets them think and overcome things on their own.

Take that time whenever you can and build that confidence. 🐾
