Summer Senior Pet Brando

Message from Owner

Wolf Creeks The Wild One (Marlin Brando) came to us at 8 weeks old from a good friend and breeder. He is currently 8 years old. Brando has a very friendly and easy-going personality. He is always happy and enjoys having his belly rubbed. Brando’s activities include daily walks at the park, chewing knuckle bones, playing with his son Cosmo and long naps. One of his favorite things to do is a trip to Folsom Lake to explore, swim and retrieve sticks.

Brando looks forward to his visits with Dr. Raymond. When he sees her his stubby tail goes a hundred miles an hour and insists, she give him a treat.

Message from Dr. Raymond

WE have been seeing Brando since he was a tiny pup, now 142 pounds and all muscle and brawn! But he is sweet and LOVES cookies, he can be bribed! Brando has had both his stifles ("knees") "re-built". He had lameness associated with cruciate ligament disease and had TPLO surgery on both legs. The TPLO surgery cuts the tibia bone and changes the angle it articulates with the end of the femur, then a stainless steel plate is placed to hold the tibia in this new angle while it heals. This surgery makes it so the forces are different in the stifle and the cruciate ligament is no longer necessary to stabilize the joint. Brando did great with the 10 week rehab after each surgery and is strong and comfortable. He hasn't had any other major medical issues, this is enough! He occasionally gets some furunculosis (deep skin infection) on the pressure points on his legs and chin from laying on the hard surfaces to keep his body cool. Brando's owners are sure to have us do a thorough exam and check his blood and urine and even an abdominal ultrasound twice a year at this point to catch any new issues before they become a problem. Brando has sired a litter of puppies and his owners have his son Cosmo who is 2 years old now.

We are thrilled to have this new sign adorn our reception area. Meet the artist, Raymond Kinman, a master woodcarver and Disney artist. (Woodcarverguru.com is his website, and check out the story of our sign on his page). We were surprised with this gift hand delivered by the artist! A very thoughtful and generous client who has been coming to BCPH since the 70’s had this made for us. He said it is an expression of gratitude and thanks for our excellence and heartfelt dedication to the community we serve with loving care. He said we are building on the legacy of the founders of BCPH by making it state of the art in our services yet honoring the good old fashioned charm of a country veterinary practice. We are so touched and so grateful to have clients like this as part of our BCPH family.

In response to the current COVID-19 concerns, we are trying to help our clients limit their exposure when possible. We plan to remain open during our normal business hours until further notice. At this time, we have decided to waive all of our mailing fees for prescriptions, and are encouraging our clients to utilize this service. If you have enough of your pet's prescription left, just give us a call and we promise to get it out in the mail the same day when at all possible.

We are also offering "curbside service". You can pull into our parking lot and we can bring any pet food or medications out to your car, and process your payment over the phone if you'd like. This also applies to scheduled appointments and tech appointments. If your pet needs to come see us, but you are concerned about public exposure, please feel free to wait in your car. We will send a staff member out to get your pet, and the doctor will come talk to you with their exam findings afterwards.

In addition to adjusting the way we are handling appointments, our staff is also cleaning and sanitizing our waiting room and work spaces every 20 minutes.

Please call us if you have any questions or concerns. We hope everyone is staying safe!

Spay Day 2020 was one of the best yet! Thank you to our wonderful doctors and staff who volunteered their time yesterday to spay/neuter, vaccinate, microchip, and apply flea prevention to well over 20 animals from our community. What a great day!

Meet Otto she is our Fall Senior pet...

Message from Otto Owners
A routine visit in the summer of 2002 was an incredibly lucky day for our family. Tiny little Otto was in the Blue Cross Pet Hospital’s crate o’ kittens. She had been brought in to BCPH by another client’s humans. They found her in their backyard tiny, weak, and covered in fleas. Our 9-year-old boy fell in love with her, and the next thing you know we’re adopting a kitten! An incredible joy to our lives, she doesn’t hesitate to remind us that she is in charge from letting you know she’d like a lick of your ice cream bowl to announcing its time to go to bed. A huge thank you to our Blue Cross Pet Hospital family for bringing her into our family, and caring for her (and us) for these many years.

Dr. Raymond Message about Otto
Otto has been coming to BCPH since she was 8 weeks old, we have had the honor to care for her for over 17 years now! In 2012 she started having some issues with vomiting and weight loss. With diagnostics of blood work, xrays, and abdominal ultrasound, we diagnosed Inflammatory Bowel Disease and have been treating and managing that disease ever since. The medications for that have predisposed Otto for an occasional Urinary Tract Infection. Otto otherwise has thrived and been a very happy healthy cat. She occasionally spends some time with us for boarding, and we are in charge of her clipping and grooming. Otto is very sweet and definitely is a valued member of our Blue Cross Pet Hospital family.
