Due to the positive popularity of our last post, we wanted to clarify Dr. Naugle's role here. As many of you know, we have several on staff veterinary technicians and animal behaviorists on site caring for our doggy guests. Should health symptoms arise that our technicians feel a guest needs extra medical attention, we are now able to call on Dr. Naugle for advice or to evaluate the animal. Due to the extreme lack of animal emergency hospital access in the area, this is a critical step for providing the best and most necessary care for our guests.

At this time, we are not opening a clinic or seeing medical patients as Dr. Naugle's sole responsibility is to advise necessary steps for quality health care. Should Dr. Naugle recommend an animal's need for hospital care, we will continue to consult with the animal's normal Veterinarian or refer to our kennel hospital of choice Animal Care Center- Danville, Pennsylvania .

For us, it has been and always will be about the animals. It is our sincere hope, that with these steps, we can create an even better protocol to identify and treat health issues should they arise.

We appreciate Dr. Naugle's willingness to help in times of need and credit her for fostering working relationships between our guests, Hill Crest Canine Country Club and Animal Care Center.

WE NOW HAVE AN ON STAFF VETERINARIAN!! Part 1 of 2: Behind the scenes we are always working to improve upon and built the services that we can offer to the community and our customers. It has been a dream to one day add a Veterinarian to our staff. Lucky for us (and our clients) we are now able to make that happen! Welcome to the Hill Crest Canine Team Dr. Michaela Naugle!

Dr. Naugle fell in love with animals at a young age and knew she wanted to be a part of the veterinary field when she began working with a therapeutic horse riding program in the Selinsgrove area.

She holds a Bachelor or Science degree in Biology from Susquehanna University, a Masters degree in Laboratory Animal Science from Drexel University, a Veterinary degree from Ontario Veterinary College, her chiropractic certificate from Options for Animals as well as animal acupuncture credits from the Chi Institute in Florida.

Dr. Naugle will continue working part time at Animal Care Center in Danville. She currently loves spending time with her horse Rocket and dogs Hattie and Quinn.

PUPPY TRAINING OPTIONS: It's back to school time! First up, options for puppies 12 weeks to a year and a half in age!

Puppy k level 1 training: This group class uses positive training techniques and works on foundation concepts such as sit, down, attention, loose leash walking, stays and impulse control. We also cover problematic behaviors such as jumping, barking, etc. The class starts September 9th (runs on Monday nights) for 5 weeks from 6 to 7 pm. The cost is $200 for the 5 week class. Preregistration is required and no refunds are given once we have filled your spot. Classes are weather dependent since they are held outside. If the weather is bad, we push class back a week.

The Balanced Puppy Program: this program has been met with huge success and is a great option for those who may not have the time to make it to class. This program is a 2 week program to which you bring your puppy for our daycare service Monday through Friday and we train them while they are here. This programs focuses on exercise, enrichment and positive training techniques. We will send home homework as we get through the entire puppy k level 1 syllabus. The cost is $500 per week. Pre registration required. Availability starting August 31st.

Stay and Train Programs: This all encompassing program focuses on exercise, enrichment and training on a whole other level. Simply provide us a "to do" list for your dog and let us take the reigns to accomplish this using positivetraining techniques. This is a 2 to 4 week training program to which the dog boards with us during the length of training. Availability starting October first. $750 per week. $300 Deposit required to hold your spot.

THE CATS OUT OF THE BAG!! It is with great excitement that we announce our purchase of the Cherokee Tap Room in Danville along with the surrounding 12 acres! This site will be a restaurant, event space and one of a kind social gathering spot with loads of fun outdoor areas to enjoy. We will be catering to people and you guessed it... their dogs! We would like to thank the Bower Family for listening to our dream and allowing us to purchase this amazing property. We hope our new space allows people to come out and enjoy a deliciously crafted meal, socialize, listen to fabulous music, evoke fun conversations, meet special guests and create wonderful memories. DID YOU KNOW? Our animal behaviorist/owner Britany trained the dog in the move Ezra being shown at the digiplex in Bloomsburg! The director liked her dog Harper so much, they changed the dog characters name to include her own. This movie stars Bobby Canavale, Robert DeNiro, Rose Byrne, Whoopie Goldberg and many more! We are introducing a new educational series DO THIS NOT THAT were we will be offering up tips and tricks for safe summer fun with your dog!

Tonight we cover water play! Some dogs like to play in and around water during the warm months to cool off or entertain themselves. Some methods are safe and others are not.... Therefore, DO THIS NOT THAT!

DO THIS: Providing your pup with a baby pool or gentle splash pad that contains fresh water is a great way for them to hop in and out as well as cool off under their own judgement. This also encourages calm play that translates over into other areas of their life.

NOT THAT: Allowing hose play with water is not generally a good option. DID YOU KNOW: Hose water play can lead to a lethal condition in dogs called Water Toxicity. Likewise (in some dogs) snapping at the water is not a playful response but a fearful one. Because this also becomes a learned behavior, dogs start to elicit biting at water during baths which can become dangerous for the person bathing the dog.

Most activities in fresh water prove to be great enrichment opportunities for your pup and can be done safely. Have fun!
