We are looking forward to seeing old and new faces tomorrow afternoon - the sun will be shining and the cider will be hot! See you tomorrow at 1pm!

To help move your horse sideways in leg-yield, imagine you are an ice skater ā€¦

You push off with one leg toward your other foot, stepping and putting your weight to the side, like an inside foot to an ice skater. Also, you cannot collapse at the waist, or you would fall.

Ruth Hogan-Poulsen has earned her USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold medals as well as her Freestyle Gold Bar. All of these awards are with top Honors of Distinction. Her students have won top honors in the USDF Year-End, Horse of the Year and All Breed awards. She has been designing competitive musical freestyles for decades, which have been performed in all levels all over the world. She splits her time between Vermont and Florida.

This picture has a thousand meanings to me and as I stare at it with memories flowing through my mind, Iā€™m overwhelmed with the emotion that fills me up.

From the fear I had as a little girl afraid to fall off, to heartbreak of losing my heart horse. The lonely times when the only one who seemed to understand were my horses, to the struggles of how would I possibly be able to pay my electric bill let alone afford to ride. From painting my first saddle with hoof black, because I wanted a dressage saddle so badly, but could only have an all purpose saddle, to not knowing how I would ever learn to properly sit the trot.

Itā€™s been a journey, a very long battle of struggles throughout the years. My story canā€™t really be summed up in a social media post but for those of you who can relate to wondering if it will ever happen to you, if all the hard work and the good deeds will come back around, if you ever feel like why is it so very difficult sometimes, or why canā€™t I just catch a break. Maybe youā€™re not even close to achieving what you hope and it feels impossible? You have a lot of nay sayers that said you didnā€™t have what it takes, or you were too old, or you donā€™t have enough money to play the game, or maybe you live in the wrong part of the country, maybe you have all the odds stacked against you. DONā€™T BELIEVE THEM.

It only takes one person to give you a chance. One scrappy thoroughbred who loves you more than his talent can bare. It only takes one person to see you working, grinding, and recognizing you have something. It only takes one girl with an incredible horse give you a chance. Just one moment of happenstance and the rest is history.

Believeā€¦..work hardā€¦ā€¦enjoy and love your horsesā€¦ā€¦be a studentā€¦ā€¦.and dream. Then repeat. It really will happen, I promise!!
