The value of breaks during sessions

If you'd watch me train my horses, you'd often see me stand and chill.

Why?
Because this gives the horse time to think abd process.

Time to relax , time to connect.

Time for the relationship.

Often people tell me that their horse has a short attention span. The the longer the session is, the worse the horse gets.

Starts nipping, getting distracted, has tantrums, refuses to move forward, etc.

The reason is that the horse needs time to think and process at least between each task. Better even after each good try.

Yes, my sessions are about 1/4 of the time just doing nothing.

This way, I keep my horses motivated, engaged and mentally fresh.

Yesterday was a roaring success,

We had a great turn out, it was timmed perfectly, the schedule worked out amazing and Nicky got a much deserved and needed day her element.

I cannot stress the importance of putting fresh eyes on you so you can constantly improve and be aware of where you are lacking so you can make those needed changes to your horsemanship.

Horsemanship is so much more than throwing a saddle on and going, it’s a very complex and layered way of thinking that you never stop improving on.

Thank you so much Nicky, it was a pleasure to host your clinic and pick your brain, we all needed it.

Today we had some honored guests from Renew Appalachia, we are so glad to have them out and today was a relaxing fun day with a quick trail ride that got the whole barn involved!

Every horse that could be saddled took off up the hillside in a group to get into the shade and out of the sun.
Blessed to have such a great herd of animals here ❤️

Why are we different from other barns?

One, we believe in keeping our prices as cheap as we can get away with because horses should be affordable for families, not break your bank for lessons.
We only charge 30$ for an hour of lesson time.

Two, we ride, but we also learn to tack, groom, ground work, clean up after, and care for the horses. This is not a show up and get on a horse type stable.
You learn it all!

Three and most important we are Gods barn!! We host Bible studies often, our trainer is Christ rooted, you’ve never met someone with a bigger heart.

Four, we do medieval reenactment and mounted archery!!! How many places do that ?!

How much weight can a horse carry?

In my experience, a horse can carry an infinite amount.

They can carry the weight of broken hearts, broken homes, and broken bodies. Countless tears sometimes comb their tangled manes. Moments when parents and friends cannot be there to help and hold a person, horses embrace and empower. They carry physical, mental, and emotional handicaps. They carry hopes and dreams; and they will carry the stress from your day when you can’t carry it anymore.

They carry graduations, they carry new careers, they carry moves away from everything familiar, they carry marriages, they carry divorces, they carry funerals, they carry babies before they are born, and sometimes they carry the mothers who cannot carry their own baby. They carry mistakes, they carry joy, they carry the good and they carry the bad. They carry drugs and addictions, but they also carry the celebrations.

They will carry you to success when all you have felt is failure. They will carry you, never knowing the weight of your burdens and triumphs.

If you let them, they will carry you through life, and life is hard, life is heavy. But a horse will make you feel weightless under it all.

Everyone meet “sendora”
A sweet little girl named Kaylie Harmon saved this mares life when she paid 750$ for this bag of discarded bones.

This mare is severely neglected and underweight but thankfully she’s in Gods barn now, and she will never want for her basic needs to be met ever again.

A child stepped in and pulled this horse from certain death, where adults failed.

We’re so proud of Kaylie for doing the right and selfless thing, there’s not enough people in the world with a heart like hers.

DawnStar Stables has openings for some students starting July!

We are definitely a unique setting out here, with talented and passionate people, some of the best horses in the tri state, and an absolutely fun and laid back atmosphere!

We are a Christian based program, always giving God the reigns in everything we do and with that said you won’t find a better place to learn about horses in a nonjudgmental love filled environment.

From schooling foster horses for West Virginia Horse Network, Inc., to getting ready for local horse shows, throwing water balloons at each other with pool noodle sword fights to actual medieval re-enactment practices and mounted archery we are definitely not for everyone!!
But if you’re into fun, relaxed, lifelong memories you’re at the right place !!
