Stonefence Farm in Centre Hall, PA is a premier hunter/jumper stable, with an emphasis on training and showing throughout the east coast. In addition, owner Kerry Kocher is a USEF licensed "R" hunter/jumper judge, "R" Hunter course, and "r" Jumper course designer.

Let’s talk about ring maintenance and manicuring!

Proper ring care takes a LOT of time and manual labor! Between Kerry and I, 6+ hours were spent today changing out some of the dead or dying lights, watering ( #3), dragging, putting magnesium down, course setting, and ring packing.

Earlier this week (thank you Eryn), 3 hours were spent saturating the ring a second time since it’s been sitting all summer out of use.

Last weekend before that, I spent 3 hours also hand watering the ring and another 2 hours dragging sand off the walls and re-leveling for the initial ring prep.

With the work put in, dust levels will stay down close to 3-4 weeks before needing another heavy water and magnesium layer. Now we just keep up with maintenance drags!

This is just one example of time and effort put in to maintaining a working equine farm. All of the SFF family always shows their appreciation when hard work is put in by our family and help—and it’s what makes it worth it to us. We take pride in providing quality equine care and hunter/jumper services in the Central PA area.

If you have a well cared for ring and are overall happy with your barn you train or board at—don’t forget to thank you trainers and barn help this holiday season (and throughout the year) for the time (and money—but that’s a whole other topic!) they put in to keep your horses happy, safe and your personal equine experience the best it can be!

I promise there is a lot of work and sacrifice put in because of the passion for the sport and love of the horse.

We are hiring for 1 part time position! One of our fantastic hands who’s been a part of our team for many years is pursing higher education and needs more study time!

The position opening is for a feeder/barn hand. Some of the duties include feeding, mucking stalls, turnout, blanket changing, distribution of hay/water, stacking hay, maintaining a tidy barn environment, and basic equine first-aid (when necessary). Hours needed is a weeknight and weekend work.

Applicant MUST have previous equine handling experience/knowledge and be reliable to be considered. Pay is hourly.

I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason and that patience is a virtue. Stemming off that, I trust the right horse will come out of the woodwork when it’s meant to! While buying or leasing can be such a stressor in today’s world, I always love the end result of watching the happiness a horse can bring to someone, and it’s one of the reasons why I love and choose this lifestyle.💛 With that being said…

It’s a beautiful October Sunday for some field work!

Jennifer Dudek riding Montego Bay (Dylan), our 22 year old TB in the Low Adults at Mt. Nittany Classic. So proud of this duo and the hard work they’ve put in the past (almost) 12 months together! This was Dylan’s first trip today, earning him a 3rd out of 9. A good reminder that age is just a number! 🤩💙❤️💛

Lucky Dings HDH in the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby today at State College Classic placing 5th out of 45. Every day is a learning and growing opportunity with him, but so happy with how he’s maturing. We seem to attract the rain when we do derbies, but we managed to beat the wicked storm this late afternoon! ⛈️

It was a lovely Thursday showing at the State College Classic and very happy with all the rides from our team! Lee King had great rides with her mare Coffee Break in the 2’ Intermediate hunters. Evalynne Ellis and her pony Brownie Points have built so much consistency in the last year learning together and also had solid round in the 2’6” Low hunters. We made a last minute decision and showed Lucky Dings HDH in the USHJA 3’ this morning. This was his first trip of the day, earning 1st out of 19, going in the ring without any previous schooling or hacking in this ring. Our little man is growing up!
