Blu is a 16 month old Alaskan Malamute looking for someone to ADOPT him!! He was found by one of my clients and they are not going to be able to keep him. They have had him for about 2 months and he has been friendly with people, kids and the dogs that he has been around. Blu is very playful and up to date on all of his shots. He will need an owner that is going to meet his activity levels. He is a big dog with strength on the leash and could definitely use some training. I will offer 3 free sessions to him and his new owner. If you are interested in adopting Blu then contact me!

PLEASE SHARE! This is Paisley and she is in need of HELP! Paisley is super sweet and needs a foster or adopter asap! She is a Bluetick Coonhound and was found by one of my current clients. She was full of fleas, which they have been working on taking care of the best they can, and she is very malnourished. She will need a vet check up immediately, but unfortunately it’s the weekend and the clients that found her are leaving the country in a couple days. Their only option is to have Charlotte Mecklenburg animal control get her in the next couple of hours, due to all rescues being full. If anyone can take her in to take care of her for now or if any rescues can take her then please contact us!!! I will offer 3 free private lessons to the adopter!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! For anyone that may be interested in our board and train programs, we only have 2 spots available in January and 1 spot available in February!

We care for our board and train dogs like our own. The most we keep at a time is 2 dogs, so that we can ensure that your dog is getting all of the time and attention that they need. Shoot us a message or give us a call if this is something you are interested in! I can’t think of a better New Year’s resolution than getting your dog trained up, and then continuing that training when they come back home to create the strongest possible bond with your dog.

This guy brings so much joy into our lives! He’s patient, loyal, caring, giving, supportive, protective, helpful, loving of all creatures (other than squirrels, there is a love/hate relationship there), and most of all he is and will always be on my side and there for me, no matter the circumstances. My life changed when Kobe came into it 9 and a half years ago. We still grow closer every day and it’s hard to think he will not always be around. I’m thankful for the years we’ve had, and that he still has s***k and I can see the puppy still in him 😄

🐾 Discover Clint Johnson, the heart and soul of P.O.P Dog Training!

With a deep passion for dogs that began long before he started his business in 2018, Clint specializes in obedience training and solving behavioral challenges. His journey started with Kato, a puppy his girlfriend (now his wife) had. Kato faced reactivity and severe anxiety, and Clint was unwavering in his determination to help him thrive.

When other trainers were stumped, Clint delved into his own research and, through hard work and dedication, transformed Kato from a nervous pup into a confident companion who could enjoy park outings and baseball games.

Clint's mission is to empower dog owners and help their furry friends live life to the fullest. In 2016, he completed an apprenticeship, and by 2018, he had launched his own business in Belmont, NC.

Clint's roots are firmly planted in Kings Mountain, and he's proudly worked with Clifford’s Army Rescue and even made an appearance on C19TV's "Fur Your Information" talk show.

Don't miss your chance to meet Clint in person at the Harvest Days Festival on Saturday, Oct 7th! 🍁🐕🎉

Nothing good happens after loading.....there is usually a reaction straight after.
Loading can take a split second....or much longer.
The very second you see the slightest changes in their posture/body language, you need to act....quickly
Loading is in between looking and reacting, and you need to learn your own dogs subtle tells that this is exactly what they are doing.
Distraction will only work if you recognise the very subtlest of changes in your dog....when loading is just starting....but it isn't a long term solution.
Distraction is exactly what it means...a distraction, it can be needed.... and at times is helpful...but there is so much more to helping a reactive dog through their own emotional journey than just distraction.

You are better off doing a u turn (I will add a link to that in the comments shortly).

The key to reactivity really is recognising the body language, learning how it changes and acting on it....before a reaction.

Some of our summer graduates from the private lesson programs! What makes these lessons so unique is that they are one on one sessions, and customizable to specifically what your dog needs. Many trainers will offer group classes, but sometimes that can be too distracting for your dog to learn. Instead, we work one on one with you and your dog to get the most out of our training sessions. Then, throughout the program we will work towards including more distracting elements to be sure you and your dog are prepared for real world situations.

By doing private lessons, you will train your dog yourself and build that strong everlasting relationship! I will coach you through the process and help you reach goals that you never thought you may accomplish!

Betty was adopted 3 weeks ago with an unknown past. She is calm at home, but as soon as she goes outside to walk or do anything it’s constant howling/whining and pacing, which turns into anxiety. The owner and I could hardly talk at the initial consult due to her howling most of the time.

She had her first lesson and we worked on redirecting her when she starts to show signs of stress, before it escalates. Once we started working, the excessive whining/howling and stress started to subside. We practiced leash pressure, name recognition, “find it” with food and trying to get her to engage with toys. We had a lot of progress and she even messed around with some toys!! She has a great nose, but we have to show her how to use it to get her in a better mindset.

At the end of the lesson, she was able to lay down and relax with some help and patience from me. It was a short duration of her laying down, but it was a big deal even for that short time, so we celebrated that and will build on that. Excited to continue helping this girl and her family!

Anyone that knew Kato knew he was such an amazing and unique dog. It’s been 3 years without him now and I still think about him everyday.

He’s the reason I am who I am. I don’t know where or what I would be doing if he hadn’t him come into my life at my lowest point. He was an inspiration, and the 7 and a half years with him felt like so much more. He helped me find that my passion was working with dogs. Kato taught me so much! Not just about training but about life. He gave me purpose and ambition to learn more about training to the point where I was motivated enough to start my own business. We are so blessed that this sweet guy was our dog. You will always be remembered buddy 🩶

Everyone meet Lucy! She is a very insecure dog, but she is confident enough to bark/growl and bite when she is uncomfortable or feels the need to protect what she thinks is hers. She has bitten her owners multiple times. The first time was on her way home the day they got her. She has also bitten while resource guarding furniture, bones and toys. She growled at me the first time we met, and did not like any eye contact or certain movements I made. We have already created a great connection in just the few hours I’ve spent with her, and now she is on the right path!! Today, she crawled in my lap for love. She will play fetch, and she has no problem learning basic commands and giving eye contact now.

The video in the post is from her second lesson. She is no longer reacting and growling while in her crate at home, and her family is implementing the structure and boundaries that I’ve recommended to set this girl up for success. Soon enough, she will get privileges like being on the furniture and being able to enjoy a bone on her own, but first she has to earn these privileges back, understand her owners are in it for the long run and their intentions aren’t to take anything from her. A lot of progress so far, but also a lot of work to do. Underneath all the insecurities and undesired behaviors, we are seeing she is just like any other dog, full of love and happiness. She just needs guidance and a leader to get her to her full potential. Stay tuned for more updates on Lucy!
