I have given horsemanship lessons for 38 years. I have had some of the best clients and horses in the world. As many of you know I have been dealing with breast cancer for the last year. In another 6 months this should all be behind me. During the last year Savannah Hudson who has been under my training for over 10 years has done a stellar job of running the farm. After much thought I have decided it is time for me to step back from the farm. Ridgeview Farm will now be Southern Equine Performance. I will no long be associated with the horse farm on a day to day basis. However the same horses and the same arena will remain a learning center and a memory maker. Thank you to all of my clients for allowing me to have the best job in the world for 38 years.

Every time your horse does something wrong you either did not do something you should have done or did something you should not have done.

When working with your horse. Don’t stop asking until you get a response! Because the release is used to tell the horse he did the correct thing, it’s important that you don’t stop asking until you get a response. In the beginning reward the slightest try!! The last thing you want to do is apply pressure and get absolutely no reaction, and then give up. Doing so tells the horse, “Yes, thank you for ignoring me! That was great! Do it again!” Be prepared to escalate the pressure if you need to, and consider taking a step back and asking for something a little easier if you are really having trouble … but once you’ve asked your horse to do something, you’re committed!

I am a lesson horse.
I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson horse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse.

I am not loved by one person. I am loved by many people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse.

I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse.

I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my family business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse.

At the end of your childs’ journey with me, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse.

At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse.

We are now accepting Fall Riding lesson sign ups!

We have given lessons for over 36 years. We offer private lessons for ages 2 to 92 these lessons are one instructor with one student. We also offer semi private lessons for ages 5 and up this is one instructor with two students for riders who qualify ( these riders must be able to ride independently) The private lessons are $35 for 1/2 hour and the semi private are $25 for 1/2 hour per rider. It is up to you to find your riding partner for semi private lessons. Our lessons are western, we start all lessons with the basics then we can move into barrel racing, showing, speed events, pleasure, roping, horsemanship and more. We supply everything you need except riding helmets. We are located in Chiefland Florida.

I’m sure a lot of y’all know this but you would not believe how many of my clients don’t. So we would like to let everybody know the requirements for Coggins test.

If you move/ transport a horse in the state of Florida you must have a Coggins test that is no more than 12 months old. If you sell a horse you must also have a Coggins test no more than 12 months old. These test are done by a veterinarian and are as simple as drawing blood and sending it to the lab. Please do not sell, buy or transport a Horse without a Coggins test.

Arena Rental
Our arena can be rented for exclusive use! This includes the the use of the lights! Exclusive Arena rental for riding only is $25 for one rider and one horse for an hour. Additional horse and/or rider at the same time are $15 each.
Barrel racing (or any speed events) are much harder on the ground and take a lot more time to repair. Arena rental for these activities are $30 for one rider and one horse for 1 hour and $25 for each additional horse and/or rider. This also includes the use of the lights. Every day that we have nice weather we always ride. We actually look forward to rainy days to take our clients to the barn. There is so much more to learn at the barn!! Learning how to ride is great!!! However learning how to groom, properly fit a saddle, bridling, understanding bits and how they work, hoof care, deworming, medical needs, feeding, stall maintenance, grooming, tying a rope halter and a quick release knot, and properly tacking up your horse are also extremely important for the riders safety and the horses well being! So that is why we also love rainy days!!! Hope to see you at the barn!!!
