*Heat Advisory*

Make sure you're taking extra care with your pets during these hot days. Keep them inside as much as possible. Take dogs out for activity in the early morning or after the sun goes down. Provide extra water. Putting down additional bowls in uncommon areas will prompt them to drink more often. Stay cool!

Be aware that the short nose breeds can get overheated quickly. (bulldogs, pugs, bostons, pekinese, etc)

*Special Hours Monday, April 8*

We will be taking a pause in our day on Monday, April 8th to view the eclipse. Our hours of operation will be 8am-1:30pm and then we will reopen from 4pm-7pm.

If you're also going to watch be sure to do it safely and protect your eyes!

Experts say pets are unlikely to be impacted by the eclipse itself — but there are steps their humans should take to help them deal with the crowds, traffic and stress.

*Lyme Disease Alert*

Our clinic rarely diagnosed Lyme disease until last year. Now, weekly.

The Ohio Department of Health reports that the black-legged tick population is continuing to rise.

Protect your pup with the Lyme disease vaccine. This is particularly important for individuals who live near or frequently visit wooded areas with their dogs (e.g., Miami Whitewater).

Did your family welcome a new pup or kitten this holiday season?

*Quick Tip*

To help your new pup adjust to their crate at night, put a recently worn t-shirt in there with them before bed. Having something that smells like you will help soothe any anxiety and quiet any barking ;)

Sound off in the comments with any questions or any additional tips you might have!

We are having an internet and phone outage. Spectrum will not be able to fix it for another hour or so. Please come on inside when you arrive for your appointment rather than call the front desk.

*Reminder* the clinic will be closing today 7/3 at 5pm and will be closed all day 7/4 for the holiday.

As most dogs are scared of fireworks, take care of your fur babies through the festivities by keeping them inside with some music playing. You could even keep them in their crate covered by a blanket. This is a holiday when the shelters get busy with a lot of missing dogs that run away when scared by the noises.

We are seeing a rise in Lyme disease in pets too. If your pet spends time near woods or high grass, be sure to check them for ticks regularly. If you think that you live in a high risk area, consider getting your pet vaccinated for Lyme disease. Contact our front desk to learn more.

Lyme disease cases have been increasing greatly in Ohio. When you're outside wear repellent, check for ticks daily, and call your doctor if you get a fever or rash. Learn more about how to protect yourself from ticks here https://bit.ly/3pkE2NF

*MPH community* keep an eye out for Franklin!

He decided to run off on Southwestern Ohio Conservation Club's property (located on Morgan Road) Thursday evening and still has not been found. Below are two photos of him. An AKC report has been filed but help spread the word so he finds his way home quickly!!

Heartworm in dogs; things to know

Heartworm disease is more prevalent in spring and summer when there are more mosquitos.

Heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs, and arteries of affected dogs, and reduce the quality of life for a dog long after the parasite is gone. For this reason, prevention is by far the best option and treatment should be administered as early as possible.

First signs of heartworm disease may include a mild persistent cough, reluctance to exercise, fatigue after moderate activity, decreased appetite, and weight loss.

If you don't currently have your dog on a heartworm medication, give the clinic a call and we can direct you to the correct brand for your pup.
