Meet Jax! Jax is a spirited and charming 5-year-old Siberian Husky that was surrendered to us in the beginning of the year with a female husky who has already been adopted. Jax embodies the typical husky traits: intelligent, dignified, and stubborn!

Jax would thrive in a home with experienced dog owners or those familiar with the unique quirks of huskies. The shelter has been stressful for him, making him standoffish when meeting new people. While he may take a little longer to warm up to new people, Jax tends to bond more quickly with women.

Come down to the shelter during visiting hours to meet this big guy! We are about to undergo a large kennel renovation project, so Jax's future is unknown. Reach out to us today to learn more about Jax and how you can make a difference in his life.

Let's spread the word far and wide and find Jax the loving home he deserves. Every share brings us one step closer to finding his happily ever after. Thank you for your support!

Introducing our newest adoptable dog, Luna! Luna is a 5 year old 30lb dachshund and lab mix who is sweet, loyal, and in need of a loving home. She's an affectionate companion who would do best in a quiet home where she can take her time getting comfortable and gaining trust.

She is weary of strangers and will growl at them, but once she learns to trust you, she will be your very best friend (and treats definitely speed up that process). Due to her weary nature around strangers, she is not suitable for homes with small children. Luna is a very sweet dog and will be a devoted member of the family once she settles in. She loves routine and would benefit from a calm household.

Luna knows "sit" and takes treats very gently. She is house trained, possibly crate trained, and very smart. She has not been dog or cat tested, but we are more than happy to schedule a meet and greet. She is low-to-medium energy and is generally a low-maintenance dog. If you think you can provide a loving and comfortable home for Luna, she can't wait to meet you!

Petunia-Grace has been in and out of the shelter nearly her entire life and has an almost 2 year streak without a home. She is one of staff and volunteer's favorites, as she is a HUGE loyal and sweet love bug. So what's taking so long?

Petunia takes time to warm up to people (a visit or few) and no one has been willing to give her a shot. She is wary and untrusting of people at first, but can we blame her? Her true personality is the opposite of what she displays when she first meets people. When Petunia connects with someone, her loyalty and affection knows no bounds. She's a dedicated protector, always eager to be by her person's side, providing comforting cuddles, and readily offering her belly for those cherished tummy scratches.

Once trust is established, she becomes an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Petunia would thrive in a calm or quiet environment without other pets, where she can shower her chosen person with unconditional love and devotion. This little girl is as sweet as pie and even though she's a 9 year old couch potato, she has the most impressive puppy dog eyes.

If you believe in her, she will believe in you. She will love you fiercely and unconditionally. Please give her a chance!

03/10/2024

Sweet Petey needs a rescue or adopter to step up and help him! He has a mast cell tumor, the most common skin tumor in dogs. It is easily removed by surgery, but he needs some outside support to continue his care. Please share and spread the word!

Petey was found as a stray - he was dirty and had neck indentions that suggested he had an embedded collar at one point. He is a three and a half year old neutered male who is house trained, likely crate trained, dog friendly (though we always suggest a meet and greet), likely cat friendly, and kid friendly (though again, family meet and greets are recommended). He knows "sit", "no", and "drop it" and is very treat-motivated.

Petey is a huge love bug and is always happy. He is an affectionate sweetheart who will rest his head in the crook of your arm and try his best to snuggle with you. He is the definition of a lap dog and prefers spending his time snuggling next to you or sleeping. He will sit like a gentleman at your feet, wagging his tail and waiting for pets. He is very friendly and a goofy, happy-go-lucky kind of guy. He will sleep on his back with all four of his paws in the air and make little piggy snorts as he naps. He would be a wonderful family dog!

Please spread the word or come visit the shelter yourself!

Jax came to us in late November with his sister who has already been adopted. He is a 5 year old large and gorgeous Siberian Husky. Jax has had a hard time transitioning to the shelter, so we wanted to open up the possibility of an experienced dog owner and/or someone knowledgeable about the breed.

Jax's previous owner stated that he is sweet, gentle, and smart. In the shelter, which is often stressful for dogs, he isn't a huge fan of men and interactions with strangers. He loves being outside and will sit politely and give "paw" for treats, which he takes very gently. He also loves stuffed toys and will get adorably excited when he hears the squeak! However, he does not trust staff or volunteers. He needs a confident owner and a safe space to work on his trust. It is possible that Jax will improve and return to his sweet self once he is in a different environment.

He is up to date on his vaccines, female dog friendly, and crate trained. He has had accidents in his kennel, but his previous owner noted that he was crate trained. He is quite vocal, which is pretty normal for the breed. He is not neutered but will be before adoption. Please come down to meet him!

Roo-Roo was abandoned by an apartment complex dumpster and joined us on April 13th, 2023. She is affectionate, low-energy, and sweet. She comes off as aggressive because she is understandably weary of strangers but once you gain her trust, she transforms into a happy goofball. The shelter staff adore her.

Though Roo likes to spend the majority of the day napping and sunbathing, she will get the occasional mini-zoomie and play bow. She's so chunky that her butt has a hard time keeping up with the rest of her body - it's adorably hilarious!

She knows sit and doesn't jump up on people. She keeps her area clean and never destroys her toys or makes a mess in her kennel. Though she hasn't formally been dog tested, we get the impression that she prefers males over females, or at least a submissive dog.

At the shelter, Roo-Roo resource guards her food bowl, so we suggest feeding her separately. We also suggest no young children because of this reason. She may improve with a stable environment, but we always air on the side of safety.

Share this post so we can get Roo-Roo adopted before her year anniversary!

EDIT: CLEO HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

Cleo (lovingly nicknamed Winky) came to our shelter late November with an infected eye ulcer. Despite our efforts, her eye wasn't improving. Thankfully, the compassionate team at the Animal Hospital of Cornelius stepped in and provided exceptional care. Though she lost her eye, Cleo has bounced back to her joyful and affectionate self. We're thrilled to see her thriving once again!

That being said, Cleo is up for adoption! She is five years and three months old and on the smaller side. She is gentle, sweet, and affectionate. She is cuddly and loves to give and receive love. She would do great in a variety of settings but needs to remain an indoor cat! Come down to the shelter to meet her!
