Your Dog Might Need Swimming Lessons 🌊 Whether you're taking a dip in the pool or spending some time by the lake, make sure to keep an eye on your pets. Even though dogs can swim, it's important that they know how and where to exit the pool to prevent accidental drownings. If you're spending a lot of time on the water, consider a life vest for your pet. We have some great ones from RC Pets for all sizes of pups!

We have some exciting and sad news! Many of you may already be aware that in November of last year, the Pet Pros stores throughout the State of Washington came under the EarthWise Pet umbrella creating one of the best pet retailer chains in the NW. Since that event, we have been integrating locations throughout the market to better serve and assist our customers. The next phase is the moving of the retail portion of EarthWise Pet Covington location to the Pet Pros location in Maple Valley. Your favorite products and foods will be moved over at the end of July and officially available at the Pet Pros Maple Valley location at the beginning of August. All of your loyalty program purchase histories and reward redemptions will be moved to the Pet Pros in Maple Valley by the end of the month.

The EarthWise Pet Covington location will remain open as a grooming-only salon until the grooming department is built at the Maple Valley location. We're sad to no longer be offering retail at the Covington location, but excited to be able to offer you your favorite products and much more through the Pet Pros location in Maple Valley with an improved in-store experience. We know this is short notice, so thank you for your patience and understanding.

Take walks in the cooler parts of the day and carry water with you for you and your dog. Remember asphalt gets very hot. If you cannot hold your hand on the asphalt for 30 seconds it is too hot to walk your dog 🥵 And if you're going hiking, we have some great hiking supplies like water/dirt resistant leashes & collars as well as first aid kits for your pup!

- Frozen yogurt for dogs, ask your local team member about our hydrating delicious summer treats!

Tip Tuesday! 5 Ways to Increase Hydration for Pets - In the heat of summer, it's important to ensure your pets have access to fresh water each and every day, for their
health and safety.

1.Make them cold treats to lick and chew. You can use water, or for
a little more flavor use bone broth or goats milk and freeze it with
some of their favorite kibble, chopped up fruits and vegetables, or
even some chicken.

2. Keep track of how often you're filling the water bowls. If you
notice the bowls aren't getting emptied, you may need to talk with
your vet to assure your dog or cat is drinking enough.

3. Many animals prefer to drink running water - especially cats! If
you think your pet isn't drinking enough, consider getting a water
fountain bowl.

4. Change the water frequently

5. If your dog is outside, make sure there is always fresh water
available to them. You should also wash outdoor dishes more
frequently as light promotes algae growth.

Did you know that cats have a low thirst drive?

Cats evolved as desert dwellers! A cat's natural diet is roughly 75% moisture. The average kibble diet is only 10% moisture. Couple that fact with their low thirst drive, and we have a major issue with lack of hydration. For a cat consuming a dry diet to properly hydrate themselves, they will need to drink more than double the amount of water than they would if they were to eat a canned or raw diet. Let's help our cats stay properly hydrated by giving them a diet that closely resembles their natural diet, moisture-rich, minimally processed, animal-based food!

Research demonstrates that a diet high in moisture boosts a cat's total daily water intake to a level that cannot be achieved by simply providing drinking water alongside dry food. The higher daily water intake resulted in increased urine volume and dilution which leads to healthy kidney and urinary tract function.
