🐾Class 19 Update! The Forsyth County Animal Shelter has waived their adoption fees for their Summer of Love Promotion. This includes waiving the adoption fee for our sweet pups! Scotia, Lucky, Allie, and Journey are still up for adoption. 🐾

On our 3 year anniversary this past Friday, we welcomed 4 new pups into the program!

How AWESOME is this pup and his dad?!?! Axel is continuing to rock this whole training thing and we are so thankful he has went into such a great home!

Good job, Axel!🤩

Kicking off our first with a pup that is well known for stopping class and causing quite a scene 💩🤪. His dad Mike is always a good sport though and we love them both!

"I got Axel through the jail program called Pups with Purpose. I loved everything about the program. With adoption, they provide 1 free month of on leash training through Rucker Dog Training. After completing the on leash and off leash course it has allowed me to have full confidence no matter what situation him and I get in. I bring him to work most days now. We also spend our weekends out at the dirt bike track or we’re making our weekly trips to Home Depot. The freedom of being off leash trained is unmatched. I couldn’t imagine life without it!" -Michael

We are so happy to announce that ALL of Class 17 have gone into their perfect furever homes!! It has been such a rewarding journey with all four pups and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We give a huge thank you to the 4 families below. We could not have done it without you!! Thank you Rucker Dog Training for supplying our adopting parents with FREE 5-week basic obedience classes.

🙈🐶 GUESS WHAT?? 🐶🙈 Sweet Georgia and her family came to visit us at the jail today to share all of their fun stories since adoption! It is a blessing to know that Georgia is getting all of the love in the world, and is spoiled rotten!! Her “person” might look small, but he loves his dog and trains her DAILY! He has blown us away with his dedication to Rucker Dog Training!! Keep up the hard work bud, both of you make a great team!! 🥳🤩 ADOPTED 🤩🥳 Our two VERY special/unique pups have found forever homes!!! Ozzie (pictured on the left next to Sarge) has taught all of his handlers how to understand and relate in all situations. Ozzie blossomed out of his shell and turned into a compassionate and patient pup!! Just like Sarge, stay tuned for updates on his new PURPOSE in life!!!! His furry face might just pop up here and there! ☺️ Jax (pictured on the right) came to us as a normal shelter pup. Same old Same old, right? WRONG! Shortly after spending some time with this fun guy, the handlers noticed something was off. After multiple evaluations, conclusion.....Jax is deaf!! The guys worked patiently, worked alone, and learned sign language to make sure we were giving Jax the best SECOND CHANCE! Jax has now found the perfect forever home with a family that is working hard to continue his training with Rucker Dog Training!! THANK YOU to these two wonderful families!! Forsyth County Jail’s Pups with Purpose

Mission Statement

The Forsyth County Jail's Pups with Purpose training program is a unique partnership between the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, dog trainer Scot Rucker, and the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. The program gives carefully selected inmates an opportunity to give back to society by providing foster care and basic obedience training to homeless, unwanted animals, while enhancing the inmate's social and vocational skills. Each animal has one primary inmate trainer and at least one secondary inmate trainer who will prepare their dog to be a better canine citizen for adoption.

The program will be taught by volunteer citizen dog trainers who will instruct inmates on how to properly care for and train assigned dogs during an intensive obedience training program. During the training program, each dog will be socialized through interaction with people and other animals. Each dog will be taught obedience skills such as how to heel, sit, recall, and stay. The canines will also be house trained and learn to be responsive to voice commands.

Upon completion of the Pups with Purpose program, each dog will possess the skills necessary to function as a fully trained pet to a loving adoptive family.

Not only does the program provide selected canines that would have been "euthanized" a second chance, but it also provides social and job skills to inmates in the areas of dog training and dog grooming.

The goal of the Pups with Purpose program is to establish a community partnership that provides the opportunity for inmates to enhance their self-worth by improving their social and vocational skills in order to assist them in becoming productive citizens after release. In addition, the program will ensure the fostered dog possesses the skills to enjoy a lifelong relationship with a loving adoptive family, saving the dog from certain death.

The benefits for the inmates:

Participating inmates learn to redirect their focus from themselves to others

Inmates learn valuable, marketable job skills

Inmates obtain a feeling of satisfaction and self-worth as they volunteer their time to a canine's life

The program gives them an opportunity to return something positive back to the community- a healthy, well socialized and well-adjusted pet

The program will improve social skills to better prepare the inmate for release back into the community

Benefits to the community:

Lowers the euthanasia rate in the Forsyth County animal shelter

Lowers costs for animal control

Provides well-trained dogs for adoption
