Nessa went home today with her adopter, Christine. She is going to a great place in Washington where she will get a lot of attention and have horse friends. Thank you Christine for adopting this special girl.

I had great success with Nessa on the obstacle course today! Nessa seemed to really enjoy herself. Thank you Lynn at Riverbottom Stables for hosting this event and coaching me on the obstacles.

Haven't posted for a while, but we have been making progress. Nessa is now wearing a saddle and bridle, and we are working towards our first ride.

This is what we got done today! Nessa's blanket is on with all the buckles done up and her ba****ck pad is on with the cinch done up. She seems to like her blanket but thought the cinch felt funny and tried to lay down and roll several times with the ba****ck pad on.

Nessa was great the first week and we got a lot done but week 2 we had a bit of a setback. She started letting me know where she did not want to be touched by biting or showing me her heels when I put too much pressure on her. Week 3 I stepped back and just worked on the things she knows and is comfortable with to build her trust. She has more understanding now and is calmer with lots of chewing and yawning. I feel we are now ready to move ahead with her training. Here is what she is doing well:

-coming up to be haltered
-stands still for haltering and unhaltering
-leading
-stopping when I stop and say whoa
-backing out of my space
-being touched all over with a stick or pool noodle
-no stranger danger, approaches all visitors
-not head shy at all

Nessa is a mustang from the Stinking Water HMA. I'm working with her in the 2023 Oregon Mustang Challenge and showing her at the Albany Horse Expo in March.

Hello everyone! My name is Austin and I'd like to introduce my mustang for the 2023 challenge. Nessa is a 14 hand three year old mare from the Stinking Water HMA. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with her during the next 100 days. She will be available for adoption at the end of the competition in March.
