As many others during these ever changing times, we have found living off the land and being self sufficient to be very rewarding.
We want to encourage more like minded people to find the same rewards. We are doing this through selling plants, animals and supplies, workshops, and being helping hands.
Pumpkin plant has overgrown out of the garden box. Lola pulled off one of the outshoots while protecting us from the fedex truck. I am trying to get roots going and save this beautiful pumpkin. Thank goodness we have plenty more but to learn how to save nature in any way is worth every bit of effort! Wish us luck!

Fun day! Lola found a new friend, how the heck the turtle find its way into our backyard. Who knows! The littles are finding hiding places and scaring mom.
Elecampane root is done and stored! This will last use for a long time. It is considered medicine.
I planted seeds two years ago for this healing herb, Elecampane. First flowers this year. This is just one plant! The root fresh, dried or powered, is used to strengthen and tone mucosal tissues. It is great for respiration and supports healthy gut. Flowers and leaves are used more with Asian traditions. Many uses and many ways to use this wonderful herb. Also found newly hatched spiders on my gargoyles. Welcome to the garden little guys!

Lola saved a baby bunny today! Lola was nosing around the ground near Mia’s cage. I heard a very loud squeak. Lola looks over at me and back to the ground a couple of times. Went to look and behold, a cold wet baby bunny. Seems he latched on to mom and got pulled out of the nesting box, tiny enough to fit through the wire walls. He had a fat belly and I brought him in to get warmed up by hubby who runs a little warmer than me. The baby was very very vocal until he calmed down and was warm again. Good girl Lola! Such a gentle loving soft mouth Pyrenees! This dog breed is the best!

That nest on top of the rabbit cage has at least three eggs now!! Pretty blue ones. Ive had to change up my activity to give her as much space as possible.
Graham Cracker in the making for the Key Lime Pie crust. Some of the flour is from what I milled. Thats lime zest in the bowl. Can’t wait!!! Nothing beats from scratch.
Mortaring tarragon, hanging fresh oregano, and found old man! I guess dog house moved off a bit of the patio during the wind storm and he toppled over. More herbs to be hung tomorrow. I have room to dry lots more!!!
Processing chamomile gets messy! Stems go to rabbits. More to be harvested and dried. The house smells amazing!
Working hard to go beyond pellets. Daily our rabbits get grasshay from the land. Today chickweed flowers are part of their breakfast. Happy healthy animals chemical and process food free. Next is to perfect the art or the scythe.
Hubby made me an herb drying rack! Starting with chamomile and tarragon. So very super happy!

Nurturing vanilla orchids and peppercorn babies. The growers I bought from sent me way more than I ordered. Looking forward to their healthy growth. Saffron is sprouting outside. Thats my banana tree outside that has already given me two pups which are in their own pots now. Gardening for the soul.
Easter bread turned out fantastic! Next up, ginger beer with chamomile. Yes it is really a healthy probiotic de-stressor beer. And yes ginger and chamomile from the garden. So much better than anything we could buy at the store on many levels.
Cabbage dye turned out fantastic! Look at that blue! Pic of the water and strained out cabbage. All of the waste went to compost adding back to the garden. Egg shells will also go in to compost. Raster bread here we come!
Preparing blue dye for easter eggs that will be part of the Italian Easter bread. The bread is family tradition. The cabbage dye is a first for me. We will see just how blue the eggs will be.
First time making Flan. Used true vanilla bean not extract and made condensed milk from scratch. All for my beloved. He has been working hard and deserve some nommy noms. Plus he takes such loving care of me and the has.

Growth from last year before I even plant seeds this year. Propagating itself. 🥰🧚♂️ chamomile, feverfew, yarrow, tarragon, oregano, thyme, golden seal, asparagus, red kale and a yard full of red/white clover. So much more. This is happiness! Self sufficiency. No chemicals. Medicinal, health for us and rabbits.🐇🐝

Momma bird landed next me on cage and then flitted back to the nearby branch as if saying hurry up with your tasks lady! It is unbelievable she nested so close to all the activity. I’ve changed my pathways to steer clear as much as possible but I still have to get close to feed the buns. We are curators to nature.

Merlot’s little werewolves amd now teddy bears. Three weeks old. Someone tell them they are supposed to be rabbits! More pics in the comments. Also when we pick them up, I think of the little Gopher at the end of Caddyshack!

Don’t mind my office mess. Everyone was with me today and spilling everything. Had Steve with me today. Lola had one on one time with a bunny up close for a length of time. She did great! Steve came from a family of dogs and young kids. Perfect combo. Also noting that Lola caught a butterfly yesterday in her mouth. She let him go and it flew off. She is fast becoming a great fit as our guard dog. She will be six months in a couple of weeks. Yup thats is it. She’s is a puppy puppy weighing in at 55 pounds already!
Jaz’s little baby, week old, eyes still closed and he is already wanting to explore! Chunky little guy!
This little guy has become a daily visitor. There’s at least one other that’s much bigger and much louder with a bright red chest. I believe that guy was a visitor since we moved here.
Please welcome Lola Summers the new member of Blou Ranch. She will live with our herd outside. As a Great Pyrenees she’s the perfect fit. She’s acclimating beautifully, though ahe misses her siblings and parents. Rabbits are curious and keep their distance hit no thumping alarms. Big Ears has nudged her once while Lola was sleeping.
