It's and today we've got a big boy for you guys. No, really that's this cuties name, Big boy A1208365. ❤️

Big Boy is looking for someone to take over his foster care or even better give him a permanent residence. Big boy's foster will be traveling soon and they want to avoid having to bring him back to the shelter.

Big Boy, is a cuddly giant with a heart of gold! This huggable hound is as sweet as they come, but he's definitely unaware of his own size and strength! Don't let his size fool you, though, he's a total sweetheart who just wants to shower you with love and affection.

Big Boy is looking for a home with a yard that has a tall fence, where he can romp around and play safely without tempting this former escape artist! He's eager to learn and please, but he could use some extra training to polish up his manners and leash skills. The summer solstice, June 20th, is the longest day of the year and we're taking advantage of the extra daylight by opening early and closing late, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. We're going to make this a super fun day with some extra activities for our animals, so we hope you'll come on by and adopt a pet! Hazel was absolutely pawstruck the other day when she got to meet Noah Kahan!

The first picture is her finding out she was going backstage! But when Hazel (and her buddy Luna ) actually met their celebrity crush, neither of them could think of a single thing to say to him and kinda just stared... (we can relate). 😅😂

So glad our pups were invited to attend the concert, they had so much fun!

In the shelter, Starlight was clearly stressed and unhappy. She didn't want to be touched and she hissed at people walking past her kennel, protective of her babies.

Just one day in her foster home and she's a completely different cat - she even looks different. Her furrowed brow is now relaxed, her eyes are bright instead of squinty, and her body is no longer tense but loose and at ease. All it took was getting out of the shelter, away from the fluorescent lights and strange smells and noises and into the comfort of a home.

That feeling of finally being able to relax and raise her babies without stress is indescribable, but you can see it in her face. Now Starlight is begging for attention and ear scritches.

Residents living in 23 Dallas ZIP Codes will receive a FREE spay or neuter, 3-day pain combo, microchip, and rabies vaccine for their dog at any TCAP location.

These zip codes are where the majority of our intake comes from. We have enough puppies that can't find homes and no, there is no medical or behavioral reason for a dog to have a litter of puppies ever.

Fixing your pet isn't just good for helping us in our battle against pet overpopulation in Dallas. It's also MANDATORY for pet owners living in Dallas to have their dogs and cats spayed or neutered. Make your appointment NOW and keep your proof of appointment handy - if your pet is not fixed you could be subject to fines and citations. But if you have your appointment scheduled, we're cool!

Note: There is a longer wait list for large female dogs (their surgeries take the most time) so please expect a later appointment date.

If your zip code is not listed, you can still receive low-cost spay/neuter service through TCAP or Spay Neuter Network by appointment.

We treat every dog as an individual, not just because they deserve it, but because we've seen it all! While a good percentage of the shepherd mix dogs we've seen come through our shelter are smart, loyal, observant, and ready to work...we've also met a few that are clueless, aloof couch potatoes who would let a T-rex in your house if they gave them a cookie and a pat on the head. And we love them all the same!

In general, shepherd mixes have so much potential to learn and perform specific tasks, which is why they are often chosen for those super cool dog jobs where they get to wear a cool vest and sniff your luggage at the airport. So if you're looking for a dog you want to teach lots of commands and run and get you if your toddler is dismantling your TV remote, a shepherd is a good choice!

Another successful DFW Pets Are Family event on the books!

We helped 840 families and gave out 20,000 lbs of pet food as well as more than a thousand free vaccines.

A big thanks to CUDDLY for organizing this event and thanks to our local partners Dallas Pets Alive, Operation Kindness, Spay Neuter Network, SPCA of Texas, The Love Pit and GoodPup! Of course our volunteers from JP Morgan Chase did a great job keeping this event running smoothly. We are grateful to Petco Love for providing the free DAPP and FVRCP combo vaccines.

We want to extend our appreciation to everyone who shared our message on social media! We are happy to report that we had 73 dog adoptions and 55 cat adoptions this weekend. We had a further 52 dogs and 73 cats picked up for foster or foster-to-adopt!

Even with 24 dogs and 1 cat returned to their owner and 35 dogs and 16 cats transferred to rescues, we are still well over capacity due to high intake. 177 dogs and 85 cats came in from Friday - Sunday. That means we only found placement for 7 more dogs than the total that came in. So while our capacity hasn't dropped to a manageable level, your support helped keep us from getting into an even worse situation. Thank you Dallas!

Here are some ways you can continue to help:

1) Look at your dog. Are they wearing a collar with ID tags? No? Get them one TODAY. This is the fastest way our animal services officers or a member of the public who finds your dog can return them to you. We strongly urge cat owners to keep their cats indoors at all times.

CUTE FOSTER PUPPY ALERT ✨🎇

Helloooooo! Hi there! I'm Diva # A1212860 im SO excited to introduce myself! I bet you want to know more about me huh? Alright alright I'll tell you. I'm six months old and I'm really enjoying this whole being a puppy thing. I love playing with my toys and snuggling with my foster people. When I got here there were a bunch of rules I had to follow and well I'm a litle Diva so I struggled at first but you know what.. everytime I learn something new the humans go crazy and I love it!

Here's what i've learned so far.
-Kennel, not so bad. I eat and sleep in here.
-sit, piece of cake.
-potty outside, yeah I can do it. Sometimes I dont get there in time. Its happening less
-Other dogs, Looooooove them!
-cats, they're so cute! It's an unrequited love thing, i love them they dont seem to love me.
-Kids, I love things that are the same size as me!

Aren't I just the most smartest and beautifullest girl? I would just love it if we could meet. I cant wait to show you all the things i've learned and to smother you with divalicious kisses.

Heads up community cat trappers!

Spay Neuter Network is offering a Community Cat Fix Day where you can bring trapped cats in for just $20 each for a spay/neuter surgery, rabies shot, FVRCP combo vaccine, and ear tip. This Tuesday, June 11th, show up to 102 East Trunk Street, Crandall, TX 75114 by 7 a.m. No appointments necessary. First come, first served.

Foster pup Ellie was out for a stroll with her foster family on a bustling stretch of Cedar Springs Road in Oak Lawn. Her Adopt Me vest drew the attention of many passersby - including a lovely couple that was actively seeking a dog to adopt! Within an hour of meeting her, the couple decided to apply to adopt Ellie. This Tuesday, they made it official!

Yesterday, 81 MORE dogs arrived at our already overflowing shelter, each one a poignant reminder of the critical need for loving homes. This morning, we are at 155% capacity, with 464 dogs sharing 300 kennels. It's a daunting number, but we ask you not to focus on that. Instead, look at these hopeful, happy faces. We've promised them that help is coming.

We didn't choose this crisis, but it's the card we've been dealt. Yet, we live in a big, beautiful city that never abandons us in times of need. We are hopeful, Dallas, that you will come through again. We have many wonderful dogs and cats waiting for a fresh start.

Whether you can adopt a pet or foster—even for just a few days—we'd love to see you this weekend! We receive dozens of new pets daily, so if you don't find your match one day, please come back and try again.
