Two-Minute Loop‑de‑Loo: Awaken Softness Under Saddle

I often begin our sessions in the saddle with what I call the “Two-Minute Loop‑de‑Loo.”

This exercise—borrowed from the groundwork toolkit—separates neck, shoulders, hinds in distinct phases. Each circle you ride, you ask softly for a bend, pause to feel a release, then reward with forward motion. By asking the shoulders to disengage separate from the hindquarters, you reconnect your horse through their body.

The shift is immediate: tension disappears, and the bridle feel softens. Your hands aren’t pulling—they’re listening. I tell students: “This 120-second dance resets connection. It’s gentle but profound.”

Ride four loops each way, feel how reins remain light, yet communication stays clear. That softness under saddle? It begins here.
