A man saw a snake being burned to death and decided to take it out of the fire. When he did, the snake bit him causing excruciating pain. The man dropped the snake, and the reptile fell right back into the fire.
So, the man looked around and found a metal pole and used it to take the snake out of the fire, saving its life.
Someone who was watching approached the man and said: “That snake bit you. Why are you still trying to save it?”
The man replied: “The nature of the snake is to bite, but that's not going to change my nature, which is to help.”
Do not change your nature simply because someone harms you. Do not lose your good heart, but learn to take precautions

URGENT UPDATE:

On behalf of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources - Georgia DNR Law Enforcement, we are asking for your help in an investigation of an indigo snake that was poached illegally on a state WMA on Wednesday, February 17th. This snake was known as Rocky, one of the males that we were tracking as part of our research. Based on our tag data, we know he was killed around lunchtime.

In addition to being harmless to humans, Eastern Indigos are protected by the Federal Government under the Species act and harming, harassing or killing them is considered a felony, and is punishable by fines, prison time, and the revocation of hunting privileges.

The Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division currently is looking into the death and has asked the public for any information about the incident. If you have any information about Rocky's death and would like to make an anonymous tip, please call the DNR Ranger Hotline [1-800-241-4113]. With a violation of this nature, there will be a reward for any information leading to a conviction.

We can not overstate how disheartening it is when we lose snakes to human persecution and that is why we dedicate ourselves to wildlife conservation. Science is a critical part of the solution, but building partnerships and educating people about not killing native animals will be what ultimately creates change.

Please keep your eyes and ears open and call the hotline if you can help DNR.

And thank you for following this page and being part of the conversation and the .

Because turtles are Awesome!

Did you know a Box turtle only roams 1 mile its whole life? If it is removed from its area/home then for the rest of its life it will roam aimlessly stressed out... trying to find "home" until it dies a very sad death.

Please do not remove turtles. Do not take them home as pets. If one is injured please mark the exact spot found for the wildlife center. If a turtle is in the road you can help by moving it directly across the street in the direction it was heading. Thank you!

I post this every few month because it's not really known. Many people think it is harmless to let their children take home a docile turtle to play with and release it someplace they see appropriate. I was once that kid. Please share the knowledge.
