Everyone’s excited for this 🤩 we now have two dressage arenas, one will always be set as a small and the other will always be a large. Adding it onto the list of all the big changes that are happening this year and next 🦄🦄

A couple more pics from the battle of the dressage barns show last weekend. Lucy and Dewey had improved scores and better circles. Peyton showed Bobby in dressage for their first time and had very pleasant and relaxed tests. Mia and Bravada did intro b and c with good scores and a grand champion. Natalie and Denny continue to improve with rideability and acceptance of the bit. Hailey and Bravada had their most consistent tests so far and are looking at first 1 at the next show. I showed my old friend Hearts and we got a 65% and 66% in first 1 and 2. Thanks to Katie and Becky for riding in our team and helping us win 🏆 a big thanks to Harper for her help all day Saturday 🦄🦄

Kicked some butt today for all three of their first time doing a combined test. None have ever ridden in warm ups or arenas like they did today and handled it mostly well. We still have lots to work on but today was a good start 🦄🦄

We had a fun show at Sit 2 a couple weekends ago. Pom poms are Tank’s best friend and make all the difference 😂 Georgia and Natalie showed against each other and both had nice hunter rounds. Lucy tried out Bravada and finished the day with a first place in trot poles

The silver sands dressage show a couple weeks ago went really well for everyone. Bobby did his first dressage show and was a very well behaved boy. Jenevieve and Hailey both scored 70s so will be trying training 1 and first 1 in a couple months. Lucy and Kelsey did their first dressage shows as well and did very good. Haley showed Lola and Miley and had improved tests from the last show. Breeze was back to work and shown by Liz and Georgia. Ellie and Brooke won both of their divisions with grand champions. It was a very successful weekend for everyone. We do have a lighter summer show schedule, but lessons and camp will be in full swing 🦄🦄

Let’s talk about the lack of quality coaching and lack of standards in the equine industry.
For example, kids learning with someone who claims to be a “coach" and all they learned is how to see-saw a horse's head down and chuck their body around a barrel like a champion.
All coaching is not equal.

But what happens when you have a good coach? One that opens their program to you, takes you under his/her wing? Becomes invested in your success? When you essentially become part of the "family"...

Eventually, something will happen...

Coach tells you that you are not Martha Josey 2.0, and not ready to make the move up to the next level.
Coach says you need to go back and fix some holes in your training.
Coach says you have developed a bad habit, and it needs to be fixed before you can accomplish your goals.

Coach says you need to make sure that your horse is being ridden. With a purpose.
Coach says you need to dedicate more time to studying the sport, not just riding.
Coach says it isn't a "horse" problem, it is a "you" problem.

People have become increasingly more reactionary. More easily offended. In lieu of everyone getting a trophy, it is so hard to hear these words from people you admire. Some of the best coaches will be the toughest. Not ones that tear you apart constantly, but coaches that aren't afraid to have the tough conversations with you. Or conversations that you may not have wanted to have.

But remember, a good coach is in YOUR corner. They want YOU to achieve success. They dedicate so much more than an hour of time to your growth not only as a rider but as a horseman. Maybe you are burning the candle at both ends (and in the middle), and you need a reality check that this sport requires more of your time and focus.

These conversations can hurt, but while it may sting at first.... take a second. Think about why your coach is against you moving up right now, why your coach is saying to wait until the summer to be a working student, why your coach is saying that you should not enter the show until the homework and flat work is done.

Surround yourself with coaches that aren't afraid to have these tough conversations with you. You don't want or need a "cheerleader" coach. You are paying you for your coach’s expertise... the positives and the criticism. Let them help make the best decisions for your horse, and for your program. The lessons on the horse and the lessons off of the horse. Are you ready?

May’s rider spotlight is from Lucy:

“Hi, my name is Lucy and I am 6 years old. I have been riding horses since I was 2 years old and I’ve been riding with CRE for 1 year! My first horse show was in July of 2023 and since then I have shown in several Hunter/Jumper shows and have won several ribbons. My first Dressage show is on May 12th and I will be doing Intro Test A and B.

I am able to ride 3 different horses (Tank, Dewey and Bravada), but I love all the horses at the barn. I just learned how to CANTER on Dewey and I am so excited.

The friendships I have made at the barn are my favorite part of riding. Everyone is so nice to me and makes me feel so special and loved. My number one goal is to be able to canter without a lunge line and continue to learn and grow at every lesson.”

We have 2 new canterers in the last week!!! Lucy’s first time tonight and I’ll post videos of Cami tomorrow

Everyone’s favorite friendliest feral barn cat- Batman (who was feral a couple months ago living at the cabbage patch until we got him trapped). He was supposed to be a foster but all the barn kids( and parents and me) loved him so much. He greets everyone, falls asleep on your lap, lays on your feet, and likes his arm pits scratched. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛
And yes. He is huge. He’s gained almost two pounds since he got here, and was already big to start with😂

These kids keep it very interesting at horse shows 😂 we had 9 horse/rider combos: Haley and Lola, Georgia and Dewey, Jenevieve and Lace, Hailey and Bravada, Peyton and CJ, Lucy and Dewey, Estelle and Lace, Natalie and Denny, and Peyton and Bobby. We had some last minute horse swaps but everyone still nailed it and had good rounds 🦄🦄

A very early wake up call last Sunday to head off to Majestic Oaks for jumpers and xc schooling. Ellie hoped onto Dewey, Alexa hasn’t shown in ages and placed very well in classes with large numbers, and Jenevieve got to try xc for the first time. Thanks to Peyton for coming to help and assist.
After we got home, we swapped horses and riders and headed to silver sands to have a fun big group ride on the trail course 🦄🦄

What better way to spend Easter weekend than with your barn crew at a very informative dressage clinic?? Every single ride had huge improvements from beginning to end. It’s also impressive when your riders can have a lesson with someone new and understand everything (or almost everything) that is being taught. We look forward to attending another one soon 🦄🦄

Our annual end of summer barn party was AMAZING. 700 water balloons, water guns, swimming, special s’mores, man hunt and who knows what else. Thanks to everyone for bringing food and having such a great time. Almost everyone was here but we were still missing a couple!!!
