Birdie here has been trying her best to learn the phone systems, but she's really just not been able to really get a good grip of the English language, and her lack of thumbs makes her terrible at pulling blood or running diagnostics.

Also, she's a dog.

We're more looking to hire human beings. .

Small business Saturday note:

Birdie and I are working on all the paper work associated with running a business. There's a lot to keep up with!

Today we just wanted to reach out and give you a heads up about some price increases on allergy meds that hit with the new year.

Zoetis corporation makes some amazing drugs. Things like Cytopoint, Apoquel for skin allergies (as well as Librela and Solensia for arthritis, and Cerenia for nausea). These drugs make life easier for a lot of dogs and cats, especially around here where we have so many allergy issues.

Zoetis is making a hefty profit, but prices are still increasing by a big percentage each year. They also give huge volume discounts to large corporations who can buy massive amounts in bulk.

Thus far we have kept our Cytopoint and Apoquel prices lower than most of those corporate vet clinics while also paying nearly twice as much for them. It's a juggle. But we want to make it possible for your pet to have access to the best medical management options we have for allergies.

We are reaching out to the regulars who get these meds to warn them ahead of time about price increases on a drug some pets get monthly, but if it's been over 3 months, you may not get a call or text about it. Feel free to call us if you think it may affect your budget so we can discuss it ahead of your appointment.

We hope you have a great weekend soaking up this sunshine!

-Dr. E and Birdie

Due to some scary electrical issues we've been down for the last 4 hours but the city came out and fixed us up and we should be back in business for the rest of the afternoon.

Some fire ants had taken up residence in the city's neutral connection and gave us the gift of crazy power surges!

Thankful we were there when it happened and we were able to get help before anything caught on fire. Thank goodness for surge protectors!

So sorry if we may have missed your calls. Please let us know if we can help you.

Residential roads, sidewalks and parking lots are still treacherous, so we will not be able to open today.

02/02/2023

We are hoping for a delayed open today but it all depends on if our driveway and lot thaw enough to be safe. Right now it's a skating rink.

You have adopted a pet – Congratulations! NOW WHAT? Even if the shelter or rescue has provided all the needed medical things, such as spay/neuter, vaccinations, worming, and heartworm testing, you should still schedule an exam with a veterinarian. Not only is it a good idea to obtain a thorough exam to see if there are any previously undetected issues, but this establishes a Client/Patient/Doctor relationship. This relationship can save you so much headache and heartache in the long run.

We work with some shelters that are not able to provide those services in house and do so with a voucher program. Vouchers typically do not include the examination fee. (Exams are included on spay/neuter vouchers only)

Once your pet is current on their annual exam, you can purchase heartworm and flea prevention, bring them in for technician appointments including things such as vaccine boosters and nail trims, or refill needed medications - without an exam fee. Additionally, if you have an emergency situation, the veterinarian that already knows you and your pet is much more likely to squeeze you in for an appointment if they can.

So even if it isn’t us, please get your newest family member into a veterinarian as soon as you can after adoption. There is currently a veterinarian shortage, and most veterinarians are booked out at least a week. Make that relationship soon!

Thank you for choosing to adopt!

**UPDATE** It looks like it will be at least a week before we have full AC restored. We are looking at portable units so that we can still see patients. However, it will mean that we will have to limit our appointments and do some form of curbside services as we cannot use the exam rooms. Please be patient as we try to see as many of you as we safely can. If you have an upcoming appointment, we will be reaching out to you soon. Thank you all! Stay cool!

That's right... No AC at the clinic!! If you have an appointment in the morning, please check your phones. We are pushing morning appointments to the afternoon. Hopefully, we will have AC by then!

We will be closed Monday July 4th. Have a safe and happy weekend!
