Foundationaly i train all dogs with a marker system, simply put a marker system is a communication system with the dog, example: “yes” is a release to food marker, the dog understands exactly what it’s doing in the moment the marker comes and the moments that perceive it are what I’m looking for. The dog is allowed to stop doing whatever it is they are doing to come get the food. In the bird dog community this specific video may be controversial in some aspects, some believe in that the dog must never experience dropping a bumper; some may believe that through proper approximation the marker is communicating to the dog that you must hold the bumper until i release you.
