We ended our 2023 Retriever hunt test season today. Preacher and Luke combined for seven passes in seven starts. Preacher was 3 for 3 In Master and Luke was 3 for 3 in Senior and 1 for 1 in Master. Sadly for me, this was likely Preachers last hunt test. The boys celebrated their success with cheeseburgers.

Dark Ponds Cool Hand finished his Senior Hunter title at Colonial Retriever Club. Luke is owned by Mike Fleitz and bred here at Rosebriar Kennel. The pups in the video are full siblings to Luke. His brother and sister are very birdy and looking for their forever home.

They’re Here!!! Ruby had seven beautiful puppies. 3 boys and 4 girls. The sire is Moose- Master Hunter ( sired by NAFC Candlewood Ramblings Man) and Ruby is sired by NAFC The Texas Troubador. This is a repeat of a litter we did 2 years and produced very biddable and driven pups. Males and females available.

We are excited to announce Ruby is pregnant by Moose MH. This is a repeat of a breeding we did two years ago. The first litter produced pup which both calm and biddable and had plenty of drive. The pups are due june 27

Clancey is enjoying his first time with a duck. At nine weeks he is a very enthusiastic retriever with both birds and bumpers. He is about 80-90% housebroken and is looking for his forever home.

In a very shortened hunt test season Preacher and Gale still had a good year. Preacher, owned by Rowan Moynihan, earned a Senior hunter led at Yankee Waterfowlers Hunting RC. While Gale, owned by Mike Fleitz, finished her Senior Hunter title at Yankee Waterfowlers and earned her first Master pass at Southern Berkshire Golden RC.

The North Dakota Sporting Spaniel Club kicked off its first trials of the year this month. The latest competition was held Friday and had what directors say was a massive turnout.

Catching you up on old news, the Training Day originally scheduled for this weekend was canceled, as was the Hunt Test scheduled for June 6 & 7. The club reserved 550 chukars for the two events. The club puts down a 25% reserve deposit in February for the birds we require for the year’s events.



Our supplier, Foggy Ridge out of Warren ME, has been a supportive and responsible vendor throughout the years. The suddenness of this lock down has caught us all by surprise. As far as I know all AKC events thru end of June have been canceled. As a result, Foggy Ridge will have about 2000 pheasants maturing in late May that will probably go unsold. If any of you would like to train on pheasants contact Jay Chaplin or Jim Olmsted at Foggy Ridge.



So far as the 550 chukars scheduled for delivery, Jay Chaplin has coordinated with club members to purchase the 250 birds that were to be delivered tomorrow. Therefore, we will meet our commitment and at no cost to the club. The 300 birds for the Hunt Test might be more difficult to sell and use. But at this time we will attempt to meet our commitment. To accomplish this, the club may hold an informal training day and/or mock Field Trials. Stay tuned more information will follow.



As of now the Springer and Cocker Field Trials in the fall are still on the schedule. We are all in this together and are trying to make sure that when this pandemic is in the rear view mirror, we are all in good shape to continue where we left off.

Hawkeye, owned by Mary Lou Dunn, earned his first Open placement at just 21 months of age by winning the Open at the Mid Atlantic Hunting Spaniel Club Trial on Saturday. Brunie placed fourth in the Open on Saturday and improved to place third on Sunday .
