A very satisfying de-shed and outline trim on Golden Retriever/Husky mix, Milli!

This was Milli’s first time with us. She was a little nervous at first but did so great for everything and left the salon happy and feeling a lot cooler on this very hot spring day! 🫧☀️

Rupert is a Yorkshire Terrier who usually comes with a duffel bag to hang out in when he’s done. He didn’t have it this visit so we made him a comfy spot on one of the grooming tables. Seems he preferred it!

Hi everyone 👋🏼

Diandra, owner/operator of Downtown Dog Grooming popping in as it’s been a long time since I’ve posted pics of the humans behind DDG - mostly because we have been very busy but also because I onetime posted a poll on Instagram to see if clients would like to see more posts about the groomers or dogs and dogs won. So, we give the people what they want!

For those who haven’t been with us since the very beginning, I opened DDG in 2017 as a young, ambitious 27 year old. I strived to give dogs and owners a better grooming experience than what existed in the area at the time and I am so proud of being able to deliver that. In the last 7 years of hard work, the salon has grown in groomers and shop pups, we’ve won awards, we survived the Covid shut down, and have managed to push through staffing shortages. In my personal life during that time, I’ve gotten married, became a momma to a beautiful little girl, and I’m currently expecting baby #2. Due in July! There wasn’t an announcement post but my growing bump has been noticed around the salon and I’ve loved seeing client’s excitement for my family.

I honestly wish I made time to do this sooner and give more updates and posts than just cute dog pics, but it’s also important to have a work/life balance (a struggle for me) and so much of me likes to keep my personal life, personal.

Unfortunately, there was an incident with a former client this week that has really encouraged me to sit down to write this.

Please remember that behind all of the dog hair and tools we use to manage it, there are humans. Skilled, passionate, hard working groomers.

If we are unable to deliver your exact request, or there is something you aren’t satisfied with. Please, kindly bring it to our attention before turning to the internet to leave negative reviews. We are always more than happy to do what we can (within reason) to make sure every client and their dog(s) leave the salon happy.

In this particular case, we haven’t groomed this dog since 2021. She only visited 3 times. All 6-12 weeks apart. The de-shedding treatment was recommended each time and it’s noted that it was declined at every visit.
Apparently, this client wasn’t satisfied but never brought it to our attention or gave us the opportunity to make it right. I’ve also never met her as it was another groomer on the team who did the services. The first one star review without context was left at the same time she posted in the community page stating that she wasn’t going to bash the business. I responded to the post and the review, professionally. She then deleted the review. The second one star review came a couple of days later. Why she is posting negative reviews and attacking my character and integrity as a business owner in the animal industry THREE years later is beyond me. It’s bizarre. And although I’d like to know her reasoning, I decided to not engage aside from responding to her post and Google review.

Nonetheless, it hurts. It’s unfair. And it drives me to remind anyone reading this that behind every small business is a team of humans working really dang hard to support their families through their passion. In your community!

We have big hearts but we also have boundaries, and we have policies in place for a reason.

If you’ve made it this far, I encourage you to please go out and support a small business this weekend. Ignore weird, negative reviews that attack someone personally and try them out for yourself. Then, share something you liked in a review or social media post. You have no idea how happy it’ll make them.

Cedar, the Australian Shepherd/Border Collie Mix cleans up well despite how much he dislikes the blow dryer 💨

Sometimes, no matter how often they’re groomed, some dogs just don’t love the grooming process. No biggie! Since Cedar doesn’t like the big blow dryer, we take some extra time to let him relax and dry in the kennel. As you can see, he still comes out looking great! 🐾
