The topic of pediatric spaying/neutering came up today and wanted to share this information again. If you absolutely have to spay, wait until the girls have had at least their first heat cycle. If you have to neuter, wait until the male is at least 18 months. We strongly, strongly, strongly suggest you wait until they're over 24 months. Remember, there is a reason OFA (Orthopedic Foundation of Animals) requires official results to be done at 24 months. At this age everything is fused and positioned where it should be. We have a hip guarantee for our dogs, however the guarantee is null and void if the dog is altered prior to 24 months. Please help educate the negative impact pediatric spaying and neutering has on our dogs.
