Wrestling with the beasts today!
Believe it or not Moose wouldn’t play this game with me last session! Now that we have proper motivation, the learning starts 💪🏻
Walking on leash doesn’t need to be a battle. I taught Maizy the “walk” command while on leash and now I can apply it to when she is off leash. I didn’t do any u-turns and I will often times let her pull me around on leash. It’s time to apply this to more dogs!
I am back in East Granby, CT. I have a busy August but am taking on new clients! Give me a call at 860-978-0203 and see if you are a good fit for my training program.

A “stay close” command can be extremely useful in situations like this. All it means is the dogs are not allowed to wander too far away from me.
I also have a “walk” command where they need to be by my side. It’s much more strict and can be used on busy streets or when I want them really close. Most often I prefer to give the dogs as much freedom as I can allow.
Recall is probably the most important command we can teach our dog and also the one people struggle with most. To be successful, it must withstand the highest levels of arousal and the dog’s most driven mindsets. Many are fooled into thinking they have a reliable recall until the dog blows them off chasing after wildlife or other dogs. Don’t fall into this trap… Teach your dog how to think and respond at their most aroused so that you can overcome this popular failure.
Wyse dog training will be taking on new clients in August. Give us a call to see how this can be achieved with your dog! 🐾

Freedom 🙌🏻
Just because a dog is off leash doesn’t mean they are free. So many take the leash off and believe they have given the dog freedom. They make random 180 turns and zap the dog on the e collar if they aren’t paying attention to them. Then stop the dog from ever getting aroused because of fear of losing control. This isn’t freedom…
Instead learn how to train in these aroused states. Get control at their highest state of arousal and then show them how fun life can be. Your dog will start to look at you not as an enforcer but as a companion. Someone that the dog wants to listen to and respects deeply.
Wyse dog training will be taking on new clients come August! Anyone interested in training should reach out now to secure their spot!

Maizy can’t do much these days because she tore her ACL and is recovering from surgery. All she gets to do is go on a couple 10 minute walks a day. Every walk presents new opportunities to train.
This was my encounter with a squirrel today. No treats no toys and I was not holding her back from chasing after the squirrel. I recognize she wants to chase and it would be easier on her if I could take those desires in the moment and show her a way she can express them. For instance, I could have taken out a ball and allowed her to put all that pent up energy into chasing the ball. Even so you can see she understands not to chase and follows my every command in these tense moments. If you can’t get obedience in the most stressful and aroused state of minds you don’t have anything.
Our most basic instinct is to avoid things that are bad and go to things that are good. This is the clearest way we can communicate to our dogs.
In this session, I teach Jerry what he cannot do using punishment effectively. We did 5 down stays over 45 minutes and this is the 4th one. The quicker we learn this, the quicker we can get back to doing what the dog wants and further build our relationship!
Genetics matter in dog training! This dog enjoys to fight because of his genetics. I cannot change that no matter how much suppression I use. It is who he is!
Instead I choose to show him a productive way to express himself. He can be himself here and show me all of that drive he possesses. He is shown that this is his outlet and is not allowed to fight with other dogs.
If I only were to suppress, at best I would have a depressed dog. I would have taken away his passion from him. Our relationship would suffer and most likely I would only be able to temporarily control him. There are better ways!
My type of dog training! Freedom is so important for every dog. If you have an out of control dog I’d love to show you how this can be achieved. Contact us today! #wysedogtraining
Grey is coming along nicely! Still haven’t given the dog any food at all. Just tapping into what he loves to do most. Such a cool dog!
It might not seem like much but to have a 4 month old dog willingly choose to bring the ball back rather than go see the random dog is a big deal! The future is bright for this guy 🙌🏻
Really happy with Lola’s understanding of play! Apparently she didn’t know that humans could bark 😂
Being able to communicate to your dogs what they “cannot” do is just as important as having them understand what they “can” do. Without the full picture, there is a lack of clarity and understanding that can lead you down a path of frustration and conflict.

✨Duke and Maizy both started out as nervous pups but through structured play and training they both learned to be calm and follow commands in stressful situations. Send me a message so I can help your dog do the same!
