All of us at Eastham Veterinary Hospital would like to give a huge shout out to Selin at Selin to the Rescue for her help today. Selin definitely came to the rescue for one of our clients who’s dog needed to be transported for Emergency Overnight Care to Buzzards Bay. The client can’t drive long distances and needed help getting her beloved dog to Buzzards Bay. Selin jumped in and offered to transport her and her pet for continued care. Thank you Selin for all your help today and for your kindness and compassion for animals and people in need❤️🐾

Many of you know our much loved receptionist, Katelyn. Katelyn suddenly and tragically lost her mom a few weeks ago. In addition to having to deal with her overwhelming loss, at the age of 23 she has had to face the financial obstacle left of planning and paying for her moms services alone. On behalf of everyone here at the hospital, we would so appreciate any donation or sharing of this post so that we can offer some relief and allow this wonderful young lady time to grieve without the added stress of finding funding by this Saturday.

Hi, my name is Katelyn the daughter of Heather Abbey. My mom, Heather Abbey passe… Katelyn Abbey needs your support for In loving memory of Heather Abbey

We wanted to remind everyone of the importance of testing and Heartworm Preventatives! We have had 2 Heartworm POSITIVE dogs in the last 2 days!!
How is heartworm disease transmitted from one pet to another?
The mosquito plays an essential role in the heartworm life cycle. Adult female heartworms living in an infected dog, fox, coyote, or wolf produce microscopic baby worms called microfilaria that circulate in the bloodstream. When a mosquito bites and takes a blood meal from an infected animal, it picks up these baby worms, which develop and mature into “infective stage” larvae over a period of 10 to 14 days. Then, when the infected mosquito bites another dog, cat, or susceptible wild animal, the infective larvae are deposited onto the surface of the animal's skin and enter the new host through the mosquito’s bite wound. Once inside a new host, it takes approximately 6 months for the larvae to mature into adult heartworms. Once mature, heartworms can live for 5 to 7 years in dogs and up to 2 or 3 years in cats. Because of the longevity of these worms, each mosquito season can lead to an increasing number of worms in an infected pet.
