Victoria & Charli
Victoria: This chin rub feels nice, but I am still new on the farm, and to you (me, her new owner).
Charli (in the back): Hey! That rub was supposed to be mine! Move over!
As You Wish: Five months old
Charli and Sequoia’s offspring!
We are thrilled that spring is almost here because we will soon be on the lookout for our first cria of 2024 in April, with ten more to follow! The female giving birth is Charli Tango (got her from Cinco C’s Alpacas)and she was bred to Sequoia of Linden Hills. Charli’s genotype is EE Aa, and although the service sire has not been tested, he has produced two white and one DRG male offspring. We are hoping for a female offspring from this pair, and since we rely on the dam's genotype, the offspring is unlikely to be white. Although we love white, we already have many at this time. Stay tuned! For more information, please visit OpenHerd Talen Ranch.
Although the temperature currently stands at 34°, which is not considered cold for us(freezing temperature starts at 32° below), we still receive a substantial amount of snowfall. However, we anticipate that the snow will begin to melt this week as we approach the onset of spring.. 🤞🏼
Can you believe it? Despite the chilly -4° weather, the male alpacas were hanging out with ease. Their super soft and snug fleece is what's keeping them warm. It's like they have their own personal heater built right in. How cool is that?
Cute how this little one cuddles with her dam. ❤️
The sun is finally shining at Talen Ranch! No more snow, please!
Khione’s morning greeting:
This! You could see the personality of the puppy on the top! 😆
Aw. Talen Ranch’s Bundaberg Rum is showing a milky mustache. A must post. 😂
Poseidon (left) and Khione (right) just returned from patrolling the farm overnight and waiting for their morning treats. They worked hard. Eco, the little 13-year-old dog, is their support dog which is to notify the two other dogs of predators and watch whatever is happening. 😉
Happy Friday!
We worked so hard today and interacted with the alpacas for the very first time. This task is essential, as we are training to be LGD. We have graduated from interacting with chickens and cats. Now we’ve been promoted to alpacas today. We are not guarding them yet as we still are too young. However, we now are comfortable being around those animals. Now, there are a few of us who need a farm to go to, to be trained further. Would that be yours?
We love our LGDs. Examples like this melt our hearts! Happy Friday!
Smores shares extra love with her little one, Dayra. ❤️
Another story on Talen Ranch: A new cria on my birthday morning! Early. His dam was standing and staring at me. I did a round earlier but no signs of possible labor. I was surprised to find the cria on the ground. He was so cold, so I grabbed him and carried him into a shed, and checked his temperature. It was so low, and I had to blow dry him for 90 minutes and check his temperature every 10 minutes. Until it hit 98F. I had to monitor him all day and ensure he received sufficient colostrum. I am now relaxed, knowing he’s OK. He’s looking great this morning. Hence, let’s welcome Talen Ranch’s Southport Saylor. The dam is Windstar’s Brianna, and the sire is Sequoia of Linden Hills (Valor’s offspring). Saylor is a lightweight male, but like his parents, he has long legs! ❤️
Milk time at 6:45 a.m.: The puppies were beyond excited when their mom came in from working on the farm.
Have a great day! :)
Now four weeks old: The puppies were moved outside yesterday, and they loved it. We also love it when we come inside their kennel, and they run to us fast. They just began eating soaked solids with formula. Their mother comes in intermittently to check on and feed them. ❤️
