Important Update Regarding Emergency Services:
We were given notice that Yakima Pet Emergency Services will be closing for good after the 1st of the new year, due to the veterinary medical staff shortage. This comes a shock to all the communities that value their help.
EMERGENCIES:
Due to our caseload and dedication to caring for our established patients, we generally can only accommodate emergencies for established clients from Valley Veterinary Hospital and Cascade East Animal Clinic.
We do have an after-hours rotation cooperative with Ellensburg Animal Hospital to care for established clients from that hospital, outside of normal business hours. If you are NOT an established client with us, with the exception of extreme life threatening emergencies, you will need to seek care at another facility, such as the 24 hour emergency hospitals in Eastern and Western Washington (see below).
DURING BUSINESS HOURS:
We offer a number of urgent care slots for our established clients at both of our offices everyday. Often times these slots fill up by late morning, so call early if you have an urgent care concern.
We charge an urgent care exam fee for these slots.
If your pet has an immediate life-threatening condition, we will make every effort to provide the care you need.
SATURDAYS:
We operate mostly as an urgent care clinic at Valley Veterinary Hospital on Saturday mornings, 8am-12 noon. We reserve most of our appointment slots for urgent cases and we do charge an urgent clinic exam fee.
Every other Saturday, in rotation with Ellensburg Animal Hospital, we also provide after hours on call service for our established clients (see below).
AFTER HOURS EMERGENCIES:
We rotate after hours on call duty with Ellensburg Animal Hospital for large and small animals, for established clients only.
We live in a small rural town, and emergency veterinary care is limited.
There is only ONE veterinarian and ONE veterinary nurse/assistant on call at any given time, and we do get busy.
You may have difficulty at times reaching the doctor if they are involved in an emergency procedure or surgery. If you have not heard back in 10-15 minutes or cannot reach us on a second phone call attempt, you may want to consider calling an out-of-area 24 hour emergency hospital listed below.
24 HOUR EMERGENCY HOSPITALS:
Kittitas county does NOT have a 24 hour emergency veterinary hospital, which is common in small towns.
As of December 2023, Yakima Pet Emergency has closed, which leaves the next closest facility in Pasco, at Mid Columbia Pet Emergency.
We often refer emergencies after 10pm to a 24 hour facility to allow our on call Doctor and nurse to be physically able to care for their patients the next morning.
We also may need to transfer a pet with a serious condition from our hospital to a 24 hour facility, if the pet’s condition is unstable or requires overnight monitoring. Our hospital is not staffed around the clock, and we will not leave a pet with an unstable condition unmonitored at our facility.
