Most of them thrive being outside. Our retired show horses are wild ponies now, and resent a stall. Our in-work horses love their outside time (8-12 hours per day, given light) and, when the weather is good, are reluctant to come in. ‘Throw some hay, hay bitch on the golf cart, and be quick about it!’
Many people do not understand a horse mindset.

Hey everyone, we have entered Tippi (JC name - A Sea Trippi)in the Mareworthy Stakes photo contest for retired Thoroughbred Mares.
Tippi came to us via Mareworthy (a charitable non-profit organization) in May 2023 with a little souvenir from the one of the kill pens where she was housed. We estimate her foal is due around March 2024.
We decided to celebrate this unexpected surprise (Blue Skies Riding Academy, in addition to being a non-profit horse rescue, is a strict no-breed facility) and are eagerly anticipating having a baby on the farm.

Our lovely Madi crossed the rainbow bridge today on her own. She was a Dutch Warmblood mare, around 25 years old.
Madi will be buried in her pasture where her gentle, BOSSY presence will continue to be felt by her friends, especially Daisy, Foxana, Pepper Potts, and all of us here at Blue Skies.

Our newest member of the Blue Skies herd, A Sea Trippi, was confirmed pregnant via ultrasound today. She arrived here in mid-May with a little passenger already on board.
Her baby will be only the second foal we’ve had in our 15 years in business, as we have a strict no breeding policy.
An unexpected development, but very exciting for us, our families, and the kids we serve, as we anticipate a new little life at Blue Skies.
Already barn moms are planning 1. A baby shower 2. A gender reveal party 3. A naming contest.
And Aj Martin is beside herself.
So a ‘little’ excitement at Blue Skies today!

Thank you for the continued donations to help replenish the funds it took to bail A Sea Trippi from the feed lot!!!! We only have about $800 left to raise.

We got a great update from Blue Skies Riding Academy, Inc. today, and we knew you'd appreciate it as much as we do :-)

"Tippi's second day of a few hours of turn out. No panic or fence running, grazed and rolled a few times. Tippi is well, eating 1 1/2 scoops of Eqceed Senior twice a day and all she can eat hay."

We're so thankful to the amazing angels at Blue Skies for giving this mare a wonderful retirement home!!!

Sad, but too true. We have rehabbed starving senior horses at great cost to us. They were loved ponies here until it was their time. One died of natural causes, the others were humanely euthanized and buried on our property. Today’s cost to euthanize and bury a horse is $700.00. That’s about 30 bags of feed for the other rescues on our property. And that amount does not take into account the $$$ it took to bring them back into good weight and the labor that got them there. And did the former owners contribute? Not one dollar. They should be ashamed, but they’ll just do it again and then pawn their next old horse on another rescue organization.
