Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day! And who doesn't love a friendly black kitty. There are a lot of legends and myths surrounding black cats, but here some facts you may not know.
1. They commonly have yellow eyes due to high melanin levels.
2. They are mostly male since the gene is part of the X chromosome.
3. There are 22 breeds with black-coated cats, but only the Bombay is always black.
4. Some black kitties are actually secretly tabby cats, after laying in the sun faint stripes can appear.
5. The first black cat movie star made a surprise appearance by popping up from the floorboards on set in 1912.

It is National CBD Day. What are some pros and cons of CBD usage in pets? Well, CBD has been proven to be an effective method of reducing osteoarthritis pain for 80% of dogs. However, cannabidiol is not regulated or approved for use by the FDA and there is no set dosage. The concentration listed on the packaging versus contained. There is more research being done, but at this time it is hard to say. It's National Mutt Day! Mutts come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and dispositions since they are a combination of two or more breeds of dog. That means anything from a Goldendoodle to a Morkie-poo and anything in between. Mutts can be the most loving and loyal family member you could ever ask for! And they are usually on the healthier side since they lack a lot of the genetic defects that many purebreds have.

It is International Tiger Day! Here are some unique tiger facts.
1. There are more tigers in captivity in the USA alone than there are left in the Asian wild.
2. There are 6 living subspecies of tiger in the world the Siberian, Bengal, Sumatran, Indochinese, & Malayan.
3. The smallest tiger is the Sumatran weighing in a whopping 330lbs.
4. Tigers can run at speeds up to 28 miles per hour.
5.They once roamed the country of Turkey and Iran, but Caspian tigers went extinct in the1970s.

It's National Hot Dog Day! Hot dogs are commonly fed to dogs around the world, but are they really safe to offer your furry companion? We cannot stress this enough! Please keep your pets indoor except to go out to potty today! It is supposed to be a sweltering 110F. This will cause heat stroke if your pet is exposed to it for more than 10 minutes at a time! Have cold, fresh water available at all times and a cool place for them to rest. Pavement will cause burns to their paw pads at temperatures this extreme! Keep them in the grass or dirt when possible. Seek veterinary attention immediately if you suspect your pet is overheating, and especially with heat stroke like symptoms!
