Edgar just finished his 6 week board and train program. When I met Edgar he would p*e and or hit the floor any time he was around someone new or in a new environment. Now Edgar has the confidence to meet new people and is over all more confident.

Sweet boy Edgar checked in a couple days ago. Edgar had a rough start to life causing him to be under socialized and fearful of almost everything/everyone but his mom. I can’t wait to see him grow into a much more confident boy.

We get asked all the time when is the best time to start training?
Training should start to day you pup comes home.Regardless if they are an 8 week old pup or 5 year old dog, we should be setting our rules and boundaries from day one.

Examples:
1. Dog pulls on the leash. Human holding that leash goes WITH the dog, despite pulling back. This effectively teaches the dog to continue pulling.

2. Dog whines and barks in the crate. Human rushes over to let him out. This teaches the dog to make noise to get attention and freedom.

3. Dog jumps on mailman or guest. Human distracts with a treat and then holds onto the dog’s collar.
This teaches the dog that jumping is awesome and gets them treats and human touch.

4. Dog breaks Down or Place the moment they see a movement or owners leave the room. Humans don’t notice, decide to just deal with it next time, or give the dog affection bc they came and laid their head on their leg. This teaches the dog that STAY isn’t something they’re expected to take seriously and that they can control the situation by demanding affection.

5. Human calls for dog to come inside from the backyard. Dog continues to sniff or runs the other way. Human begins to chase dog or grabs an enticing snack to lure them in. This teaches the dog that humans don’t need to be taken seriously and that ignoring recall produces a fun play session and/or a yummy treat.

Time to change! Your dog won’t change until YOU change your own standards, habits and actions. 📈
