Happy Friday!

Congrats to all the new dog owners we have seen over the past week 🐾🐾 Seeing puppies is a perk of the job and watching them grow into adult dogs is so much fun for us.

Make sure you are staying on top of vaccines as parvo outbreaks commonly occur in the fall,(but can also happen anytime) just as colds do in people! Vaccines start usually anywhere from 4-6 weeks old then every 3-4 weeks until their last vaccine which is usually around 15-16 weeks.

We are here for any and all of your puppy questions!

September is pet pain awareness month, today we’ll be discussing signs that may indicate your cat is in pain.

Signs of pain in cats are often missed until the cat's condition is advanced. It’s key to recognize these signs.

-change in activity (sleeping more, lethargy, pacing, hiding)
-increased or decreased respiratory rate
-frequent vocalization (howling, meowing)
-biting, licking, ripping fur out of one area on the body
-panting
-aggression (hissing, tail flicking)
-litter box accidents
-decreased grooming (poor coat, unruly fur, increase in knots)
-decreased appetite or thirst
-vomiting
-trembling or shaking
-limping or difficulty with movements
-grimacing (ears back, eyes squinted, whiskers back, mouth pursed)
-hunched back, tucking in abdomen, tense body, tail tucked
-drooling
-avoiding pets, touches or getting picked up

When it comes to your cat's health it's always best to err on this side of caution, when in doubt, if your cat is acting abnormal, give your vet a call.

🗓️ Mark your calendars!

Due to an incredible grant we received from Petco Love, we are very excited to announce that we will be having a FREE vaccine clinic on Saturday, September 14th from 9 am - 12 pm here at Genesee County Animal Control! We will be offering the DHPP vaccine for dogs and FVRCP vaccine for cats.

Please have all dogs on tight leashes and all cats in carriers! 🐶🐱

This clinic is available for GENESEE COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY. This will be a first-come, first-served event while supplies last. 🐾

** The shelter will be closed for all other services on Saturday, September 14th to ensure that we are able to safely and efficiently administer the vaccine clinic. Thank you for your understanding. **

Absolutely amazing pillars in the community they will be missed! ❤️❤️❤️

Although it's never easy to say goodbye, especially when it comes to our work family, today we say "farewell" to AC3 (Deputy Chauncey) and AC4 (Deputy Sanchez) as today is their "Last Call" with MCAC. Over the years, both deputies have profoundly impacted the lives of countless animals and the communities we proudly serve.

Deputy Chauncey and Deputy Sanchez have been pillars of our department, demonstrating unwavering dedication and compassion in their roles. Their efforts have been instrumental in the success and growth of our Animal Control team. Their commitment to animal welfare and their dedicated service have left a great impression on our community.

Deputy Chauncey has been a valued member of our team for over 10 years and although he will be dearly missed we are grateful for the many years of dedication and compassionate service that he provided for our community.

Deputy Sanchez has been a big asset to the countless animals and residents in need. There is nothing too big, aggressive, scared, small or young that this "mighty mouse" couldn't handle.

While we are saddened to see them go, we are excited for them as they embark on their new mission. We extend our deepest gratitude for their years of hard work and service and wish them nothing but success in their future journeys. Both Deputies are uniquely important and will be sincerely missed.

This is their official End of Watch with Macomb County Animal Control and we, as a community, wish them well in their future endeavors!

Thank you, Deputy Chauncey and Deputy Sanchez.
We salute you at your final sign-off!

-Your Macomb County Animal Control Family
