This little girl is the "now" the love of my life! She was found 2 years ago in the middle of a road, about 3 weeks old with hydrocephalus. As she looked like a baby wombat, and not knowing if she would survive, she was loved and cared for under the title of "Baby Wombat". She was believed to be possibly a chihuahua due to her very tiny size, but DNA test revealed Rottweiler, Collie, Staffordshire Terrier and Boston Terrier!! (???!!??)
When she began to thrive, the fluid on her brain decrease and she began to grow!! Her personality is amazing! She is so very happy, very loving and keeps me laughing and loving life ALWAYS. " Baby Wombat" became "Wombee" and naturally is now a permanent addition to my animal sanctuary. Life is so very much richer with the love and companionship of furry friends!!

Animal People is still in operation but in a slightly different capacity. Although we no longer actively take in animals, we continue to help any animal in need and work with other rescue organizations to help us place them. Our main focus now is on the 18 animals we have remaining in our care. They are all previous rescues who for various reasons (mainly health reasons) never found their adoptive family. They are all very content and happy to be staying with us; all playing and getting along together and have plenty of everything they need including LOTS OF LOVE! We continue to provide for all of their medical needs and will see them comfortable through their last days.
As time moves on, we have had to say goodbye to some of our "Comfort Team" members. Sadly, Tango and Kadee are no longer with us, and recently 19 year old Kalooa joined them, and now, they are all waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. It is always devistating to lose our beloved companions but we can always find comfort in the love we shared with them and remembering the richness they added to our lives. We miss them dearly, but they are always just a heartbeat away.

Layla is an 8-year-old beauty with the softest coat! She adores people and just wants to be with her humans. She is house-trained and good in the house. She gets along with submissive dogs, but does not like assertive or more dominant dogs. She also is too interested in cats for their own good. Layla is smart, loyal and loving...the perfect trifecta to make an excellent companion ❤ Meet her today and tomorrow at Petsmart-Archer Rd!

We'll be at Petsmart-Archer Rd, Gainesville tomorrow from 11am to pm with these 4 awesome dogs! Come by and check them out!

Finn is a 6yo Red Heeler. He's smart, people-oriented and just a well-behaved boy! Although he definitely is happiest with plenty of mental and physical exercise, he also knows how to stop and smell the roses. He's also good with other dogs and house-trained.

Layla is a 6-7yo beautiful mutt. She is extremely people-oriented and eager to please. She desperately wants someone to love. She spent some years on a chain, so she needs an extra loving and adventurous life to make up for lost time! She is best with submissive or laid-back dogs. She is also house-trained.

Sasha and Sara are bonded chocolate Lab sisters who recently turned 10yo. They are a goofy, joyous pair! They are in good health and are still pretty active. They love romping around the backyard and lying at your feet. They are good with other dogs and house-trained.

Our Comfort Team had a wonderful time at Hough Hall today helping to "destress" the students during finals week. Not only was there loads of lovin' and huggin' and pettin', but there was even a little bit of entertainment as well. Smiles all day!!!

This is Kubby. He found our rescue today and is a very sweet, happy, silly, one year old Bloodhound in need of a loving home. He was found on the road, taken in by a family who searched for his owner, took him to the shelter to allow his owners to claim him and then pulled him from the shelter when no one claimed him. They do not have enough yard for him and want him to have an opportunity for a great life. He will be fully vetted and available for adoption this weekend! Finn is an Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is about 3 years old and is of course, he is incredibly smart! He is very loyal and devoted and as a herding breed, he plays very "mouthy". He loves other dogs, not so great with cats, and loves kids, though wouldn't recommend children under 10, due to play tendencies. He is very well behaved, learns very quickly and always wants to please. He would love to have a job or be in a home where someone might be with him most of the day. He is sweet, he is sooooooooooooo loveable, and he so deserves his very own forever loving home!

Buddee is a 9 year old Pitt Bull mix. He is extremely loveable, great with other dogs, ok with cats and loves kids! He can be very silly and loves to play but often forgets just how strong he is ! He has been with Animal People since he was 7 months old and is very accustomed to group living. He does however believe he is a lap dog and loves the opportunity to cuddle every chance he gets. This fun, happy, loveable companion really deserves his very own forever home.

Sammy is an 11 year old Australian Shepherd mix. He is a wonderful family dog, loves kids, defiantly prefers human companionship to animal companionship, and LOVES, LOVES LOVES to play fetch!! He is great with other dogs and cats but is extremely devoted and attached to his human. He so very much needs a human of his own to love who will adore him in return!!

This is "Jack". He is a 10 year old Jack Russell mix who is incredibly sweet and loveable. As a senior he is active and loves to go for walks but has mellowed out of the high energy Jack Russell personality and is very easy going and loves couch and lap time. He is great with other dogs and doesn't mind cats and simply wants a family to love him!!!

Unfortunately my dad's dementia is progressing fairly rapidly lately which is requiring me to be home with him and inside with him as he has panic attacks often. That has limited my time outside with my remaining rescue/sancutary animals. Though most of them are older and prefer laying around, they still deserve their very own loving homes. I will be posting our sweet babies on Facebook in hopes their pictures will be shared and they will have a better chance of finding that forever home. We are doing adoptions at PETCO on Newberry Road on the first Saturday of each month if anyone wants to stop by and see them! We do cat adoptions at Petco every weekend (Robin) so yes, we are still trying!!!!! Thanks for helping to pass our critters' photos around!!!

Kadee decided she was gonna help us wrap gifts tonight so she sat in the stretchy bow basket and selected, "gold" or "silver", which ever suited the wrapping paper!!! Such great help!

It was with many tears and a very heavy heart that I buried my sweet Love Bug today. She came to us with so many issues, eyes, skin, knees, hips, back, heart and hundreds of allergies, she was constantly on medications and getting treatments to help her "get better". Although Love Bug died peacefully in her sleep, showing me no signs of illness or discomfort, as a rescuer I now question whether I actually did right by her. I promised Bug I would take care of her and never allow her to suffer, and though I believe in my heart Bug NEVER suffered, she was simply comfortable and basically content, I can't honestly say that Bug was happy. I pray that in the eight years she was with me, she knew that she was loved. All the medications, all the special baths and every evening after dinner sitting on my lap getting her ears rubbed, she was very much loved and will be very much missed. I pray that somewhere amongst all of that, my Love Bug did find some happiness

This is BEAUTY. She is one of our recent rescues. She is a 12 year old German Shepherd who has lived nearly her entire life on a chain. BEAUTY should weigh around 75-80 pounds but weighed in at 40.5 pounds. She had been living off of the occasional cat food she was able to eat when her owners kicked the cat food cans close enough to her that she could lick out what was left in them.
During her 12 years of life BEAUTY has never been to a veterinarian, has never received vaccinations, never been spayed, and never been on flea or heartworm prevention. Her skin is grossly inflamed and infected from flea allergies and constant irritation, and BEAUTY has heartworms.
We were able to convince the owner to turn BEAUTY over to Animal People as he was preparing to take her out behind his home and shoot her because she was old and they were tired of taking care of her.
BEAUTY is incredibly sweet, and loyal, and attentive, and full of love, even though she has experienced so very little of it from humans. She is on medications, is being fed several small meals daily and has a very large, comfortable bed of her own. She now is able to live inside and is actually an amazingly well behaved house guest!!
Donations will enable us to provide for BEAUTY'S care, as well as help us care for our other wonderful rescued friends.

THE HOLIDAY SEASON IS UPON US !!! Animal People has been successful in downsizing with the help of other rescue organizations, but we still have about 35 sancutary / adoptable sweethearts we are caring for and need to continue to provide food and monthly medications. We have again been invited back to Books-a-Million to do gift wrapping for the holidays and we could certainly use volunteers. We start gift wrapping on Black Friday and wrap every day through Christmas Eve. Anyone interested in helping us spread holiday cheer while also helping us help our animals, please contact us on fb or email. Thanks so much.

We also want to thank all of our friends and well wishers for their support and kindness during this difficult time. We are truly grateful to our longtime volunteer and friend, Todd Stephens for his never ending support and generosity in helping us with our medical debt. Animal People has been able to exist only through the kindness and generosity of our adopters and our friends. We appreciate you all so much.
