This would be considered a medium to advanced clinic, but not meaning a beginner wouldn’t benefit. This clinic is more structured towards maneuvers, head sets, responsiveness, softness and overall control. 2 day clinic price is $350. Hours are 9:00 to 4:00 Saturday and Sunday. Stalls are $30 a day paid to facility. $150 non refundable deposit by Venmo or PayPal to secure your spot. PM Richie with questions or to sign up for the clinic. Layne will also be there as a trainer and assistant.

The little horse that could! One of my favorite cross
Country runs. Do a quick Google
Search on this little horse, “Teddy”!

Over the next few days, you'll see horses out in the snow without a care in the world. We tend to get calls and questions about horse welfare because a horse is out with a couple inches of snow on his back. In these cases - by and large, the horse is fine and his body is actually doing what it's designed to do!

A horse's coat is an amazing tool to keep them warm and insulated from temperatures we hide from. (Older horses, underweight horses, or those with certain medical conditions are exceptions.)

Most important for their health in this weather is HAY. The act of digesting hay is the horse's internal furnace. Good quality horse hay that is edible for your horse is of primary importance in cold temperatures.

Some other tips: Don't add or change feed because of cold weather! Warm water added to your horse's regular grain ration is a much better choice than a bran mash, for example. (Bran is actually not high in nutrition, and sudden dietary changes are stressful for the digestive tract!)

Offer room temperature water if your horse is outside and a heated trough is not possible.

Be sure your horse has free choice access to plain salt. This will encourage drinking! If he doesn't - you can add a small amount of plain white table salt to his feed.

Be aware of your horse's feet, especially if he is shod. Snow can pack in the hoof and create ice balls, so be aware. Folks use anything from cooking oil to vaseline for prevention if a shod horse is kept on turnout. Barefoot horses will most often naturally "shed" packed material.

And finally - know your horse. If he is shivering and continues to do so even though he has hay and a windbreak - he needs a waterproof blanket or a warmer place out of the elements or both.

Stay safe and warm, friends!

Aren’t these cute!!

Blanket season is upon us! A friendly reminder about how to correctly, and SAFELY fasten your horse's hind leg straps.
The straps should loop through each other and back to the same side they started on. The straps should be snug, but not tight enough to rub.
Belly straps should also be crossed, front to back, back to front, and Chest clips should always face your horse.

This is how WE do our blankets, if you do yours differently but still safely, great job! Safety and comfort is always the goal!

Happy Blanket season!
