As we gather to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, let's not forget our furry companions! Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and calm during the festivities:

🎇 Create a Safe Space: Make sure your pets have a quiet, comfortable place to retreat away from the noise.
🐶 Keep Them Indoors: Fireworks can be frightening for pets. Keep them indoors and secure windows and doors.
🐱 Update ID Tags: Ensure your pets' ID tags and microchip information are up to date, just in case they get scared and run off.
🐾 Avoid Fireworks: Never use fireworks around pets. They can cause severe burns and trauma.
🎆 Watch the BBQ: Be mindful of what your pets eat. Certain foods can be harmful to them.

4th of July Pet Safety Tips From Your Veterinary Team at Gardner Animal Hospital

1. DON'T FREAK OUT! Fireworks and other loud noises can be fun for us, but scary for our pets. Try putting your pet in a quiet room and play some relaxing music for them during the festivities. Pro Tip: Ask your veterinary staff about calming pheromones and thunder shirts!
2. TAKE A CHILL PILL! Some pets just need more help than others to calm down. Talk to your veterinarian about potential medications that can help your best friend relax.
3. BE A PAWTY ANIMAL! BBQ's and parties may be fun for us, but pose a potential threat to our furry friends. Keep alcohol and food out of paws reach!
4. STAY COOL! It will get very hot outside and festivities can be distracting. If your best bud is outside with you, make sure they have shade and lots of cool water.
5. MICROCHIP! More pets get lost on July 4th than any other day of the year. Call your vet to schedule an appointment to get your pet microchipped to ensure they can always find their way home!

🐾 Say hello to Murphy! 💕

Murphy is an 8 year old German Shepherd who has been getting his annual wellness exams and vaccines at our hospital since he was only 4 months old! 🐶 This handsome man has also been a frequent flyer at our kennel building for boarding and regularly utilizes our sPAW services!

Murphy's nails have gotten a little long recently since they aren't filed down as much naturally as he's aging and not as active. Murphy also sheds QUITE a bit on a regular basis, and even with his owners brushing him out twice a week, they just can't keep up! That's where we come in! 😉

Murphy has now gotten on a 6 week rotating schedule at our sPAW with a full de-shedding treatment bath, brush-out, blow-out, and nail trim. Then every other 6 weeks, he is getting his nails trimmed and a full brush-out. This has helped keep Murphy looking and feeling great!

Having your pet on a regular grooming schedule keeps them happy and healthy with their skin, coat, and nails! When not bathed or brushed regularly, a pet can develop skin issues such as dry skin, hotspots, yeast, etc. especially for long-coated pets or double-coated pets who may be prone to matting or moisture buildup on the skin under all that hair!

🏫📚Graduation Party 2024🥂🎉

This daycare party will be hosted on Massive Monday 5/20 and Tiny Tuesday 5/21!

The price for attending the party will be $15 in ADDITION to the price of daycare. Pets currently staying for boarding or visiting the sPAW on those days will be welcome to attend as well!

The party price will include a 4 in. by 6 in. photo SIMILAR to the one below (not the same) with the correct themed backdrop. props, etc. If you have more than one pet attending the party, we will attempt to get a picture of them together AND individually for no additional charge!

All pets attending the party MUST be current on the required vaccines for daycare and boarding which is their Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, Canine Influenza, and a F***l test with a negative test result.
