Rushton Stables camp dates are coming up!!
Campers ride every day, get to do lots of activities with the horses as well as learn horse care, make friends, and have fun!!

Camp is 9 am-2pm every day

Age 6 and up, all levels accepted!

$450 per camper, $25 discount for siblings

It was GRS Home Show day and it turned out great!! When we got up early this am it was rainy, chilly and grey but as promised, our judge Frank Miller, ‘brought the heat!’ and the skies cleared for a beautiful day! We had everyone from show riders to beginners and everyone did great!! Stay tuned for pics of our day but for now, we will just say that everyone had fun…even Doggo!🥰

Some weekend wisdom by William Steinkraus:
“No. 1. Get your tack and equipment just right, and then forget about it and concentrate on the horse.
No. 2. The horse is bigger than you are, and it should carry you. The quieter you sit, the easier this will be for the horse.
No. 3. The horse's engine is in the rear. Thus, you must ride your horse from behind, and not focus on the forehand simply because you can see it.
No. 4. It takes two to pull. Don't pull. Push.
No. 5. For your horse to be keen but submissive, it must be calm, straight and forward.
No. 6. When the horse isn`t straight, the hollow side is the difficult side.
No. 7. The inside rein controls the bending, the outside rein controls the speed.
No. 8. Never rest your hands on the horse's mouth. You make a contract with it: "You carry your head and I'll carry my hands."
No. 10. Once you've used an aid, put it back.
No. 11. You can exaggerate every virtue into a defect.
No. 12. Always carry a stick, then you will seldom need it.
No. 13. If you`ve given something a fair trial, and it still doesn't work, try something else—even the opposite.
No. 14. Know when to start and when to stop. Know when to resist and when to reward.
No. 15. If you're going to have a fight, you pick the time and place.
No. 16. What you can't accomplish in an hour should usually be put off until tomorrow.
No. 17. You can think your way out of many problems faster than you can ride your way out of them.
No. 18. When the horse jumps, you go with it, not the other way around.
No. 19. Don`t let over-jumping or dull routine erode the horse's desire to jump cleanly. It's hard to jump clear rounds if the horse isn't trying.
No. 20. Never give up until the rail hits the ground.
No. 21. Young horses are like children—give them a lot of love, but don't let them get away with anything.
No. 22. In practice, do things as perfectly as you can; in competition, do what you have to do.
No. 23. Never fight the oats.
No. 24. The harder you work, the luckier you get."

Another horse we are so surprised hasn't been snatched up is 2 time Reserve World Champion RRVE Validation (not to mention his in hand World Champion title!!). This leggy, long necked, great thinking gelding is 5 years old, sound, super good thinking, and super solid to work and show. He's nearly ready to go under saddle and is just as good thinking that way. He's fun and dependable and could go back to the pleasure division if his new owner wished. He's got a smooth way of going and a headset that sets him apart, this is a super nice, super useful horse that will be in the top ribbons anywhere he goes. Priced to sell, he's a great buy that will be loved by owner and trainer alike!!

Rushton Stables has a couple of horses that we are surprised nobody has snatched up yet!! This mare is all of the things...She's 6 years old, sound, sane, kind, honest and she OOZES quality!! She's started on patterns, is ears up every day, drives, and is priced to sell. We had a Walk Trot rider show her just to dip her toes in that division and she won that way as well!! This mare is a joy to work, super pleasant in the stall, hauls well, there are no holes!! And...did we mention she's stunning?!?!

Rare and Restless
ASB gelding

‘Rocky’ is the best! He’s been trained and shown western by an ama successfully, showed saddle seat by a green adult, and gives lessons to the littles all the way through to the adults. He’s got a great canter, is pretty, sound, and just the right amount of ‘chill’. He’s been wonderful in our lesson program but we don’t currently have a need for him so he’s been hanging out more than he should and we think he could be helping someone else get riders going!! He’s 17 this year and has been kept UTD on everything always, wears a plate easily and has no big tricks. He can live inside or outside. He’s not spooky, nice to be around, hauls, clips, all the things easily, Shown is video of him in a full bridle for the first time in probably 2 years, no muss no fuss. He’s a solid guy. Video also includes a small walk tro rider and a girl learning her up downs. This horse can teach everyone from start to finish.
