Reasons to De-Shed your Double-Coated Dog:
•Gets rid of excess undercoat, allowing your pet to feel cooler without taking away the dignity of their coat - Not to mention MUCH less hair on the furniture! 😝🐾
•De-shedding will help eliminate or decrease the amount of pet dander and pet hair shed. Pet dander can cause flare-ups in allergies — it collects airborne allergens such as pollen, dust, and mold spores. 🤢
•HEALTHIER alternative for shaving. Shaving your double coated dog will NOT make them cooler, they do this themselves internally. Getting rid of built up undercoat and allowing them to feel the breeze on their skin, will!
When the hair is shaved down to the skin, the undercoat hair will grow back faster, and oftentimes will over crowd the slower-growing guard hairs. This can change the texture and color of a dog's coat and make it appear very patchy. Skin cancer and severe sunburn is also a risk when you shave them all the way down to the skin. In short, shaving your double coated dog will most likely cause long term damage to your dogs overall skin health. ☹️
*(Note that shaving sanitary/belly area is entirely different than shaving the whole body, as the growth pattern is different here, and sunburn is unlikely in these areas.)
What is De-Shedding? ✨
De-Shedding is a process that takes place during the bath and blow dry. During the bath, I use a conditioner after the first two shampoos. The density of the conditioner pulls out extra undercoat, while this sits for about 5 minutes, I brush! After the bath, I use a high velocity dryer and… you guessed it! More brushing. 😉 This is going to blow out any remaining undercoat that I wasn’t able to get in the bath, leaving your pup luscious, cooled off, and ready for summer! 💕✨🐾🦮
