We were all smiles (despite the heat!🔥) to see the Germantown Charity grounds bustling this past weekend with the schooling show, College Combine, and clinics hosted by EXEL!

The talented crew from our neighbors at Germantown High School Television did a fantastic job reporting on what it takes to participate in and put on a horse show! They interviewed trainer Beanie Cone on the important role that trainers play, discussed the organization of a show this size with our president Mary Livesay, learned about horse care from Lisa Ballo and hoof care from our farriers Boone Barney and Daniel Dorris, and discussed our history with our GCHS history expert Mary Beth Berry. Emma Henager explained gaits and strides and how classes are structured.

Anyone who’s ever had to set fences for their trainer or rearrange the course at home can appreciate the hard work of a jump crew. GCHS has some of the best and we are beyond appreciative of them! Not only do they set all of our fences for the Hunters and Jumpers across three rings, but they also set our carriage driving courses and sounding boards for the Breed Show. Thank you jump crew for making this show possible!

Welcome to the final evening of this year's Germantown Charity Horse Show! We are excited to continue the celebration of our 75th anniversary! Be sure to wear your favorite hat or bow tie if you want to enter the Big Hats & Bow Ties Competition, and our Box Seat Decoration Contest continues this evening at 6:30. All boxes that were judged last night will be included in the judging and will be based on their Friday evening setup.

If you want to enter your child in the Stick Horse Race, please visit the Princess Tent (located on the grassy hill between Tanner Pavilion and the Announcers Stand.) Make sure to visit our vendors on Vendor Row and check out the fantastic shopping and food.

Thursday evening was a fantastic night of competition at the Germantown Charity Horse Show! It was a night of speed with our carriage drivers and Speed Rackers, and the Tennessee Walking Horses, Gypsy Vanners and Paso Finos thrilled the crowd as well. Join us this afternoon in the Sonny Foster Arena at 4:30 for the Grand Prix of Germantown, followed by the Stick Horse Race, Carriage Barrel Racing, and the Breed Show!

We can’t wait to see everyone tonight for the Grand Prix of Germantown and the many championships that are on tap for the Breed Show! 🤩

This afternoon make your way to Sonny Foster Arena at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds! Later this afternoon is the electrifying $25,000 Grand Prix, an equestrian jumping competition for expert riders, sponsored by the City of Germantown. Arrive early (by around 4 p.m.) to get a seat and see all the action. Consider competing in the Big Hats and Bow Ties contest, which will be judged during the Grand Prix with prizes being awarded in multiple categories.

Next up is the kids’ stick horse race as these youngsters pretend to be their favorite racehorse. Sign-up at the Princess tent (there is a $5 entry fee, cash preferred). Bring your own stick horse or purchase one from the GCHS Charity Store.

The fun continues as the Carriages compete in their own form of Barrel Racing, and then later in the evening compete for the Best Carriage Dog. Enjoy the magical Gypsy Vanner horses with their long flowing manes, tails and feathered feet and the Paso Finos are back on “stage.”

Plan to stay the whole evening to see the championship performances and trophy presentations with the “best of the best.”

Stick horse riders, is your horse warmed up and ready to go? 🐎 We're ready to cheer you on tonight in the Stick Horse Race of Germantown! Bring your own stick horse or buy one at the show and enter the race at the Princess Tent (located on the grassy hill in front of Tanner Pavilion) with just a $5 entry fee.

Start time for the Stick Horse Race is just minutes after the conclusion of the Grand Prix of Germantown. This is your chance to get in the ring and show everyone how fast your horse can run! 🤩⚡️

Judging for Box Seat Decorations will start at 6:30 and the winners will be announced shortly thereafter. Prizes will be delivered to the winners' boxes. As a reminder, the categories are Most Traditional/Historical, Most Creative, and Most Entertaining. Good luck to all of our box seat holders!

Coming to the show this weekend? Here are the details on how and where to park!

🚘 Friday Parking 🚘
Parking is available on the grounds. During busy hours, overflow parking is provided at Germantown High School and Germantown Presbyterian Church with complimentary shuttle services. Disabled parking is available in the A parking lot near the Founders Pavilion.

‼️ Saturday Parking ‼️
Be sure to arrive early for the Grand Prix on Saturday to make time for parking and seating. The ticket office opens at 3:30 and you’ll want to arrive in the parking area well before the start of the Grand Prix at 4:30. Some parking is available on site, and overflow parking is located at Germantown High School and Germantown Presbyterian Church. Shuttles begin at those locations at noon.

Wednesday evening at the Breed Show was an exciting night as we enjoyed carriage driving, Gypsy Vanners, Walking Horses, Paso Finos, Racking Horses and sidesaddle. The Smooth Ride Challenge was a crowd favorite, and we welcomed our Great Horseshoe Hunt Good Sportsmanship Award winner, Jack Eaton, to center ring.

Are you ready for some speed? We have a lot of it on tap tonight! Our Triple Crown of the Carriage Driving speed classes begins this evening with the Gamblers' Choice and continues tomorrow and Saturday:

Calling all Big Hats & Bow Ties to the Germantown Charity Horse Show!

The GCHS Big Hat & Bow Ties competition is one of our signature spectator events and it’s free to enter. Simply join us on Saturday afternoon during the Grand Prix of Germantown and wear your favorite hat or bow tie. Judges will move about in the crowd to choose a winner for each category. All hats and bow ties that the judges spot in the crowd will be considered an entry.

🥇Winners will be announced and prizes awarded within an hour after the Grand Prix.

This year’s categories are:

🌹 Most Beautiful
🤩 Most Original
💐 Overall Ensemble
🧑🏾‍⚖️ Judges' Choice
🎩 ⧓ Men's Hat & Bow Tie

Judges also will award a prize to the Best Carriage Hat during the Carriage Driving Championship class.

Enjoy these moments from our first evening of the Breed Show at the Germantown Charity Horse Show! Our grand dames Tempe Chancellor and Mary Liz Foster were presented in honor of their many decades of dedication to the horse show. The Sonny Foster Arena is named in honor of Mary Liz's husband, the late Walter "Sonny" Foster, Sr.

Wonderful memories were made in the Rachael Smith Memorial Costume Class with some of the most creative costumes ever seen in the ring! We also welcomed Gypsy Vanners, Tennessee Walking Horses and our Sidesaddle Division, and Queen Natalie and our princesses presented awards.
