Led by highly experienced and skilled clinicians and support staff, the Hospital for Large Animals at Cummings Veterinary Medical Center at Tufts is the premier facility in New England for the care of horses, alpacas, llamas, goats, pigs, sheep and other large animals. Since its founding in 1979, the hospital has offered consultation, referral, emergency veterinary services and 24-hour care for i
ts clients and patients. The facilities are located 45 minutes west of Boston, with easy access to and from a number of major highways and routes in Massachusetts. While the Hospital for Large Animals has grown to be one of the largest referral hospitals in the Northeast, specialists strive to provide personalized, compassionate care that clients have come to expect from their veterinarians. The facility consists of over 40,000 square feet of hospital space, in which clients have ready access to the region’s most powerful diagnostic imaging capabilities in a sterile environment. Veterinary specialties offered at the hospital—including modern surgical suites, an intensive care unit and a sports medicine clinic—allow clinical teams to diagnose and treat complex conditions in patients. Attached to the hospital is a modern pathology laboratory that provides diagnostic information daily for our patients. The Hospital for Large Animals also offers the only dedicated isolation facility in New England. This facility is separate from the main hospital and allows for isolation and treatment of animals with potentially contagious conditions. The Hospital for Large Animals is proud to have the only high-strength MRI for large animals in New England as well as X-ray, ultrasound, state-of-the-art nuclear scintigraphy suite and a High Definition 16-slice Helical CT scanner. Four distinct and specialized services within the hospital are available to meet each client’s needs efficiently and effectively: General Diagnostic and Surgical Service, Internal Medicine Service, Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery Service and Ultrasound Service.
