Grand Prairie Animal Services and Prairie Paws Adoption Center encourage responsible pet ownership and maintain a safe city by offering field enforcement services, educational programs and pet adoptions for Grand Prairie residents. One of the primary goals of Grand Prairie Animal Services is to place as many pets as possible into quality homes with responsible owners. Responsible ownership include

s spaying and neutering, vaccinating for rabies and other diseases, and making sure the animal is wearing a collar with an identification tag at all times. The purpose of this page is to present matters of public interest to let Grand Prairie residents, businesses, visitors and other interested parties know about all the services, events and promotions in which Grand Prairie Animal Services is involved. This adorable husky man is looking for a forever home! His foster mom is also his finder and though she adores him she has a husky baby of her own and isn’t ready to close off her ability to foster!

Blue is dog friendly
House trained!
Loves to run and play outside

Overall Blue is a calm dog with random spurts of the zoomies! He can be timid meeting new people but there isn’t a mean bone in his body!

TEMPORARY FOSTER OPPORTUNITY!!

Grand Prairie Animal Services and Adoption Center needs fosters for large and medium sized dogs starting tomorrow 8/30 till next Saturday 9/7!

It’s less than a week!!

Next Saturday 9/7 is our GPAS Clear the Shelter!

So many dogs will have the opportunity to get adopted but we are already out of room.

If you can foster we will provide food, toys, leash collar and a kennel!

Meet Maddie!

This girl is an absolute ham!

From her little awoos to her prancey feet Maddie is a staff favorite that found a foster home!

Maddie is fantastic with other dogs. Working on her house manners and an absolute love bug.

Maddie loves water so much she puts her paws in her water bowl every time she takes a sip!

She has two foster dog siblings that she gets along great with and her favorite thing to do is chase grasshoppers in the back yard!

Her foster parents are completely smitten and are continuing to work on Maddie’s manners as she has learned how to ring the bells on the back door when she needs to potty!

Maddie would prefer an active family that wants to spend time with her. She loves toys and play time and is not ready to slow down yet! She is friendly with children and loves every human she meets.

5 year old male GSD

This guy has taken us by storm!

He’s still not a cuddle bug but who can blame him he was massively failed by people.

He is currently in a foster home and he is curious and follows everyone around.

Is completely potty trained has not had any accidents.

Does not chew things he shouldn’t

LOVES dog of every size!

Is living with respectful children.

Has a great guard dog bark!

And well is just adorable!

All of these babies are under a year old and at risk of space based euthanasia due to how long they have been with us.

Adoptions are slow and intakes are fast!

If you can’t adopt you can come and foster one of these babies! We provide food and kennels!

Another! Irish Festival Happy tail Tuesday post!

Twilight now Orla was a very timid girly at the shelter even during her meets with potential families she took a lot of time to warm up.

Though absolutely beautiful a lot of families do not want to take a chance on a dog that is shut down in the shelter environment…. But man are we so happy that Orlas family did!

“We went to the North Texas Irish Festival back in March with no clue that we’d be coming back home with a dog. But we were all drawn to her instantly and knew she’d fit in well with our family. Since we adopted her at the Irish festival we decided to give her an Irish name, so we named her Orla after a character from one of our favorite TV shows “Derry Girls.” Orla means “golden princess” and we think that fits her well! We can’t imagine our family without her!! She has two older cat siblings and they all coexist peacefully together. We’ve taken her on multiple hikes and a few glamping trips. She is so sweet, quiet, gentle, and does the best sploots. Orla mostly prefers being a lap dog and watching baseball with my husband—her absolute favorite human 😂. She’s quirky and awkward and we adore her.”

Today is National dog day!

We want to take this opportunity to introduce a dog that has been with Grand Prairie Animal Services and Adoption Center for over 100 days…..

Meet Freud.

You may recognize him from our video about the dogs that have never had a visit. …. Unfortunately he still hasn’t.

Freud has stolen the hearts of several of our volunteers and they have asked for us to specifically share him on our socials.

Freud has been on our focus list for a few weeks and really needs a foster rescue or adopter soon in order to get a chance at a happily ever after.

Last week one of our long term residents found her forever home.

It was a bit farther away than we imagined but her family was willing to do anything to get her.

Roxxi (Formerly known as Jelly belly) has made her way to Chicago!

Transport is not an easy feat as a municipal shelter but when the adoptive family is able to pay for transportation fees we can make it work!

Ronnie has had zero interest.

She wound up on our focus list with little time left.

A foster family stepped in and is helping her look for her forever!

Meet Ronda, affectionately known as Ronnie, a gentle 5-year-old Lab mix with a heart full of love and a sprinkling of charming white freckles. This sweet girl has come a long way in her journey and is now ready to find her forever home. Ronnie is fully potty trained, spayed, up to date on all her shots, and microchipped, making her all set for a smooth transition into a new family. She’s a calm and quiet companion, perfect for those who appreciate a peaceful home environment.

Ronnie may be shy at first, but once she warms up, she reveals her affectionate nature. She loves nothing more than curling up on the couch and watching TV with her favorite humans. Her unique look, with little white freckles, adds to her endearing charm. She’s good with other dogs, making her an excellent addition to a multi-pet household. Her gentle demeanor extends to small rodents, as she’s perfectly comfortable with them when they’re safely in their cages. Ronnie walks well on a leash, making her a pleasant walking companion, whether you’re strolling through the neighborhood or heading out for a leisurely car ride—one of her favorite activities.

In her foster home, Ronnie has shown herself to be a tolerant and loving dog. She’s even patient during bath time! Her foster family adores her and has seen her blossom into a loving and loyal friend. Now, Ronnie is looking for a forever home where she can continue to thrive. MEET ROXXI!

She’s hoping she can quickly find a home so her life can truly begin!

I’m a quiet, reserved girl who keeps to myself but has just the cutest personality! Accidents are minimal and I sleep in my crate all night sooo quietly, until you’re ready to wake up & start our day. I’m a little nervous of new places but give me some treats and my attention is all yours. I don’t chew on any furniture, clothes or anything either; no mischievousness here! I like kids & other dogs and I’m super smart- I learned “sit” in one day!!

Roxxi is an even 50 pounds and done growing! She also is only two years old!

This is a dog friendly event. All dogs participating must be current on their rabies vaccine. All dogs participating should be friendly towards other dogs, children and adults.
One dog is included for FREE per registered participant 18 and older.
This is a child friendly event. Children 3 and under are FREE and do not require their own registration.
Only children who have their own registration will receive a t-shirt. If you would like for your child to have their own shirt, please ensure you register them to receive one.
Strollers and wagons are allowed, just be mindful of other runners and dogs.

Happy tail Tuesdays might just be the staff’s favorite day!

This year at North Texas Irish Festival we got lots of fantastic dog adopted to fantastic families!

There is nothing more rewarding to our staff then getting to see the families we have made whole and the dogs we have fought so hard for being spoiled rotten!

“Churro, the lovable rescued shelter puppy who has stolen our hearts! This little guy is a bundle of joy with a passion for baths and playtime with his dog sister. He also shares a special bond with his brother bunny, enjoying playful moments together. Although his relationship with his brother cat is a work in progress, Churro's love knows no bounds.

Churro's adventurous spirit shines through as he delights in digging, attempting to climb trees, and engaging in gentle wrestling matches with his human sisters. His affectionate nature is evident in his love for cuddles and his endearing habit of placing his paws on your shoulder for a hug.

This free adoption win turned out to be the missing piece that completed our family, and we couldn't be more grateful for the joy and love that Churro has brought into our lives.”

Meet Riley!

This girl really needs an adopter, rescue or long term foster!

Riley is a focus list dog (for her length of stay) who was completely out of time. Due to this her finders came and scooped her up for the weekend in order to give her some more time.

Riley is potty trained, super great with dogs and kids, 5 years old so no puppy behavior, kennel trained and overall an amazing house guest.

We are not sure why she has been so overlooked in the shelter but this girl would fit well in just about any home!

UPDATE ON WHEELER! Our super shy boy wheeler that we posted looking for a foster the other day, is making great strides with his dog friends! He would still greatly benefit from a foster as the shelter is over flowing and more one on one time would make a huge difference! Check him out!

Is anyone willing to help Wheeler?! Wheeler is a 9 month old fully vetted staffy boy. He is absolutely stunning but TERRIFIED of everything. He desperately needs out of the shelter. Can someone open up their home and foster this sweet boy? He needs someone that will challenge him but also be gentle and patient. Someone to help him open up and see that the work isn’t so scary! Look at this boys submissive tail wags. Wheeler is kid friendly! He does not walk on a leash.
