Zeus has not had a bath since his injury in Dec. It’s been driving me crazy. He’s been shedding badly, dry skin,dry coat. I couldn’t bathe him here since he can’t do stairs and I can’t carry him up and down the stairs plus he slips in my tub. So we made a trip over to J&T Feeds and used their self bath station. I was able to lift him in and with good grip on the tub base he got a nice bath and looks soooo much better. Of course we have to end such a traumatic ordeal with a treat so DQ was in order.

Hi! Time for an update. Zeus is 3 weeks post surgery today. We went to VCA for P.T. Hannah is happy with his progress . We stopped at Dutch Brothers for a Dutch Pup on the way home. You can see he loved it!

The therapist and the neurologist were both very happy with Zeus’s progress yesterday. He had his two week postop. They took the staples out and he had physical therapy and laser therapy. Today we did a snuffle mat for some mental stimulation, and I think he enjoyed that. I have to laugh at the way he sits sometimes.

Thank you for all the prayers and support for Zeus! It’s going to be a long 8 weeks but hopefully he will be able to walk again and normally. I’m not grooming for now. I can’t leave him unattended. I sleep on the floor on an air mattress beside him. I will reassess as time passes.

Well he is home. You can see his incision. He had laser therapy and P.T. Before leaving. I brought home a big bag of meds due at varying times. We have to do P .T. 3-5 times a day,ice several times a day(which he doesn’t like). He needs to be in his sling whenever he goes out. I’m

Heard from the neurologist an hour ago. Surgery went well she removed a lot of disc debris. His mobility has back slid some which is to be expected. He is going to see the physical therapist tomorrow. If everything looks ok they want to discharge him. He is not tolerating being there well and they don’t want him to injure himself. They have dosed him with gabapentin and it is not calming him down any. He is very anxious. So I am scrambling around, trying to get everything situated for him. I ordered a ramp for my vehicle and a pen to have him in in the living room, but it will not be here until Thursday. Luckily I have a friend who can lend me both so I will get that set up tomorrow. Looks like I will be sleeping on an air mattress in the living room for a while. I’m glad he loves me so much but it is difficult when he can’t be away from me.

Another update: The neurologist called. He has ruptured discs. Surgery is tomorrow morning. At least 8 weeks recovery. Crate rest, only out to go potty while in a sling, physical therapy. Please keep us both in your prayers. I don’t want to do something wrong and hurt him and I pray he gets full use of his back legs and doesn’t rupture another one.

Another long day. Had Zeus in Loveland at 7:15 am for the MRI of his back and neck. Left VCA at 3:15pm. They took several views and sent them out to radiology for further interpretation. There were some spots in his back and one in his neck they wanted looked at. Should hear tomorrow. Don’t know if it means surgery or what.😫😢

Latest update on Zeus. We were at VCA of Northern Colorado in Loveland this morning doing a status update. The vet did not feel that he had changed much since she checked him. The plan is still on for next Monday the 15th MRI of the brain and the back. Please keep up those prayers they’re working!

2. Kids? Meh, it depends on how dog-savvy they are; he's a big, bouncy guy and might be too much for them.
3. Cats? With his houndy nose... unsure.

Update on Zeus. I just spoke to the neurologist. The big blood panel that came back on him was all normal except his ALT which has to do with liver levels. Was double the amount. So they did an ultrasound yesterday and something called a bile acid test. The bile acid test came back normal, liver is fine. But what they found that probably has that level elevated is his gallbladder. There is fluid in there that is thickened and kind of hard so I am waiting for a call from the internal Doctor Who saw him yesterday. His chest x-rays came back good no cancer, he is scheduled for an MRI on the 15th unless he gets worse. This will check to see if he has a tumor in his brain or in his back or if he has IVDD which is intervertebral disc disease meaning that he ruptured a disc in his back. so far what I’m hearing is not as bad as I had anticipated at this point, but the MRI will tell us if there’s any cancer or anything else bad. So please keep up the prayers. In the meantime, strict crate, rest which he is getting tired of very quickly.
