I am pleased to announce that Four Paws Rescue of Ct AKA Gracie's Way Farm and sanctuary has another wonderful volunteer. Let's welcome Jay to our volunteer team. Jay brings dedication, some knowledge of horses, and the ability to follow instructions. Jay has been coming to feed the horses for 3 weekends now and has done a fantastic job in a short amount of time. He has expressed that he wants to learn all aspects of learning the horses, and what's involved with caring for them. He is working on building a bond with the horses. He feeds, turns out and has started to learn how to groom them. In the fall Jay & Sébastien will be learning how to do ground work with them in the round pen.
Both Jay & Sébastien would like a farm of their own someday, and while volunteering for Four Paws Rescue of Ct AKA Gracie's Way Farm and sanctuary they are learning the foundation to build on. I am very appreciative and blessed to have two wonderful men working with the horses who love them as much as we do.

We are always looking for volunteers to join our team so, if anyone is interested and has a love for horses & mini donkey's, please hit the message button, or text me at 203.687.1601 for more information and to set up an interview.

Missing in Brooklyn:
Little Niko went missing when he and his sister snuck out of the house. His sister came back, but Niko didn’t. If you see him, please do not call out to him or chase him. He’s very friendly, but he may be a little nervous. And sometimes he thinks that chasing is a game and he’ll just run away. Please call the number on the flyer immediately if you see him. His family is heartbroken.

URGENT! PLEASE READ! We’ve been on hold for taking new dogs, but we would like to help Nikki. To do that we need TWO things. First, we need a foster home for her when she can move to us (probably around mid-April). If you can foster or would like to foster-to-adopt her, please fill out an application online: https://www.allaboutthedogsrescue.org/get-involved
Second, we need *pledges* to help cover her care. *Please note that we cannot accept donations for her until she is actually an AATDR dog – when that happens we will let you know to turn your pledges into donations.* To pledge, please comment on this post with the amount of your pledge.

Without BOTH a dedicated foster or foster-to-adopt home AND pledges sufficient to cover our costs (transport, spay, medical and daily care while she’s with us) - as well as a portion of the medical care she’s receiving now – about $1000 total – we will sadly not be able to help. Please help us become part of Nikki’s journey! The first 4 pictures in the post show Nikki today - the last 3 show her when she was first found. What a difference!

Here is her story:

A couple of months ago, a fellow rescuer found Nikki roaming. Or, to be more precise, Nikki found them. She was running in the middle of a highway and was practically hit several times. When the rescuer’s husband stopped the car and opened the door, Nikki jumped into it. That choice probably saved her life. He brought Nikki home and the rescuer – Cindy Smith, Founder of Four Paws Rescue of CT - Gracie's Way, got busy doing what rescuers do.

Cindy moved her family and her rescue to South Carolina several years ago. She did call her local animal control, but they declined to take Nikki. Cindy got her to the vet, and she had a TON of medical issues. Nikki was about 15 lbs underweight, verging on being emaciated. She had a double ear infection. She was infested with fleas and ticks. She tested positive for THREE tick-borne illnesses. And the icing on the cake – she was heartworm positive.

Since then, Nikki has received amazing medical care. She’s gained weight, her ear infections and tick-borne illnesses have been treated, she’s had all her vaccines, and has had her first injection for heartworm. Next month she’ll go back to the vet for injections #2 and #3, and the month after that will go for a repeat blood test, to make sure the treatment has been successful. As long as she tests negative, Nikki will be able to travel!

So … WHO is this girl Nikki, aside from her medical issues? She’s a sweet, loving, happy, playful hound mix (maybe with beagle?) who is about 5 years old and weighs about 55 lbs. She loves other dogs (she is an energetic playmate so medium-sized dogs would be best). She’d be fine with children 10+ years old – she does get excited and could knock over smaller children. She is SO excited to be living a life of being loved and getting good care – she literally will run in circles with excitement. If you go hiking, she’d be thrilled to go with you! She’d be a great candidate for search-and-rescue, nose work, and/or agility. She’s a smart cookie! She’d be in heaven with a fenced yard and a doggy playmate or two.

Nikki most probably would have died if she hadn’t chosen to jump in Tim’s car that night. Now she has a chance to live the best life ever. We at AATDR firmly believe that teamwork with other rescues is SO important for positive outcomes for dogs like Nikki. Please become part of Nikki’s team by pledging today and, if you can, filling out a foster application!

⭐️⭐️REUNITED⭐️⭐️
We have our little Christmas miracle. Finn was just found by a wonderful neighbor. Our little guy has been making the rounds.
He’s very good at hiding, and we were always two steps behind. He was found with his leash wrapped around a tree by a wonderful neighbor. He is skinny but so very happy to see his mom. She’s going to bring him to the vet this afternoon to make sure he’s OK.
I would like to say thank you to his mom Sydney and his dad Parker, and all their dedication on finding their boy. There was no way they were ever going to give up. They did everything and anything asked of them plus a whole lot more. I knew their perseverance would pay off. Their family was also an incredible help and their friends who are out there searching as well. All the neighbors off Scotland Road, Wales, Lawler, they were also wonderful. Thank you so much for keeping an eye out for him. Thank you to CTDGRV Patti for all your guidance and for rooting Sydney and Parker on. Thank you also to CTDGRV Melissa, Jill & Adam!
Thank you to Eric from Zencat For flying your drone numerous times, Julie and Georgia for your amazing tracking. Georgia had his path spot on.
We are so grateful that Finn is home to his amazing family.
Welcome home Finn ❤️🐶🐾

Big Boy update: Big boy finally got to eat. He had just under 2 lbs of grain twice and 4 pounds at dinner time made into a mash. He also has soaked hay. I did last barn check at 11:00p.m. I gave him fresh water and Reba, Lainey & Dolly are there. They don't go to wherever their home is anymore. They stay in the barn with Big boy!. Reba loves attention. Lainey and Dolly are skittish but they will come around.
Now it's a bigger battle to get weight back on Big Boy. Hope to have his blood results tomorrow and I pray it's all normal. I am also hopeful his higher fat grain will help him. Folks, it's been a long ass battle with his weight. Like 1.5 to 2 years of a battle, plus sinus infections, foot issues, eye injuries, but together, we will win this war we are fighting. I will stand with Big BOY for as long as it takes bc I DONT GIVE UP!
Please keep praying for our gentle giant.

UPDATE #2: There is no change except he drank 8 gals of water during the night but no manure in his stall ): refilled water bucket, put mask on , talked to him. His fans are on. He is waiting for his 3 friends to show up. If there is nothing different by this afternoon, I will be calling the vet back. I'm worried that he has not had food per vets instructions until the oil he was given passes through his system.

UPDATE: FIRST, the vet suspects colic. He gave pain meds, and a sedation med to be able to put tube up his nose and down his throat and gave oil and water. His bowels are soft but has sand in it.(Not surprising as we live on total sand) His heart rate was elevated and his gut sounds were poor. I also had them draw blood to do a full blood panel. He has melanoma tumors under his tail which is a new development. Common in white horses. The sad part is, by the time he would need chemo or tail docked, it will be to late.we were advised to just leave it alone.
His feed is increased to 8 to 10 % fat with a cup of oil at 7 pounds of grain twice daily and hay.
Folks, we are doing everything in our power to save this horse. Right now he is on water only for the next 24 to 38 hours. We have to wait until the oil gets out of his system before he gets food or hay.
If anyone is interested in donating to his medical bills we would be grateful. Your donation is tax deductible as we are a 501c3 Rescue, Sanctuary, farm. Please send donations to:
Four Paws Rescue of Ct AKA Gracie's Way
241 Frank Jones Rd
Gresham SC, 29546.
We will keep you updated as things progress. Thank you for the prayers and please, keep them coming.
The picture is to show how far he slid down the bank head first. This is where I rushed to him, he was unresponsive until I wrapped my arms around his side and yelled "Don't you die on me". With that, he mustered the strength to get up and I got him in the barn to halter him so Tim could load him in trailer.

On our way to vet for emergency. Big boy keeps going down, labored breathing. Say a prayer for our old guy.

Well, Tennessee & Whiskey got hosed down tonight. Such good girls, no cross ties, no ties at all. They stood there and sucked it up. Bonnie on the other hand, she don't like the hose so that's one more thing I will have to work with her on. Clyde just wanted yo go out and Big boy was in all day with his three little friends. He didn't eat well tonight but it's a new grain with higher fat in my attempts to put weight on him.
Fresh water in water tubs as well. Life is good!

Well, Big Boy has another sinus infection, he managed to somehow injury his eye. I just can't catch a break with this guy. Tonight he has his 200.00 mask on to protect his eye, I put eye meds in his eye and his friends, Reba, Lainey and Dolly were keeping him company today. They are starting to molt so they are maturing. Big boy seems to have gotten comfortable with the chickens which is good, since they like to hang out in his stall with him. They also walk around the barn like they own the place!🤣.
Clyde is getting better about getting fly spray on, Bonnie is also getting better with have her nose touched and getting kisses, Tennessee is now giving kisses without being asked and our sweet Whisky always gives kisses and hugs. The donkeys have seemed to recover since the loss of Jolene. They will always miss her but they are getting back to normal. As for me, I still can't bring myself to go out back yet where Jolene was laid to rest but I will someday. She took apart of my heart with her as they all will someday.
All the pups have learned to stay out of trouble while I'm at the barn!
As another day on the farm comes to a close, I am grateful for all we have!
